Dessie Returns

I received a call from the lady that got Dessie on Sunday.  She said she is hissing at them, so she wants to return her.  I told her it usually takes at least a week, sometimes 2-3 weeks before they are comfortable with their new family.  She said she still doesn't want her, so she is bringing her back tomorrow.  She doesn't understand that they only hiss because they are scared (and usually as soon as you pick them up they stop anyway).

If she can't wrap her head around understanding that, she's not clever enough to be Dessie's mommy anyway!

I'm glad she did call. I don't understand why people think pets should be able to adapt to their new homes (and people) immediately.

At least she will return Dessie rather that throwing her out with the trash. There are way too many people who think their pets are just property.

Sounds like she is scared of Dessie. So it sounds like it is a good thing she is returning her.

Aww poor critter :( People who don't understand the mannerisms of a particular animal shouldn't get them in the first place. I have heard of many people returning their ferrets because they think they are attacking them, when in reality all they are doing is the "ferret dance of joy" when they are very very happy. Sad. At least they are returning her to you and not just dumping her somewhere

She should understand that with any animal it takes time!
Are they hard to care for? Do they get along with dogs?

It is better that they called you and gave you back the hedgehog. If they do not understand about how they act then they do not need one. I was scared of mine when I first got them but they got use to me and I got use to them. I never had one bite me. Have you?
