A woman gets arrested for visiting her dying sister? What? Well, the story goes:

She visited her sister to hold her hand while she dies. The woman, Geraldine Magda, 44, in Austin, MN because she helped herself to her dead sister's wedding ring. (Star Tribune, Minneapolis January 4, 2008).

That is absolutely unbelievable. I can't believe what some will do to get material possessions from family members on their death bed. I've seen this sort of thing and it's disgusting.

sad, however I have gone through a similar episode when my aunt died while in my care. The family of my aunt only showed up six months after she died without any notice. They were out for any thing that they could make money on and took a lot of things, at one point my husband had to stop them from taking our stuff. This two years after my Mom died, and the whole episode turned me off to that side of the family. If I had to do it again I would however I would do things alot different.

Wait!!!! If she didn't take the ring off her sister's hand, the hospital staff or funeral personnel would have stolen it! Actually, the sister should have taken off all her valuable jewelry before she went to the hospital, but maybe it was an emergency and she didn't have time, but I would take off any jewelry and give it to a relative or a trusted friend. I am surprised the sister still had it on her finger!

Anyway, maybe the woman removed the ring before it was stolen by a stranger so that she could put it back on the sister's hand before burial, or pass it down to someone in the family. Maybe she had discussed this with her sister.....Don't rush to judgement without all the facts!

We had this happen here a mother stole he sons wedding ring I guess she figured his widow didn't deserve it. I have even seen worse working in nursing homes and a hospital. Some people just suck!!

There are alot of sickos out there. I have also heard of funeral directors taking jewelry.
Some people around here steal the baskets of flowers, etc. from the graves. Disgusting.

You should have been around when my ex father-in law went to a nursing home in the last stages of his illness. He wasn't even dead yet.

You should have been there when the vultures divided the spoils when my last wfe died. The day of her funeral.

I think the mistake was in not clearing it with the head nurse who should have suggested the ring be taken home before the sick woman became too ill to make her own decisions.

You know, it depends on what other relatives the dead lady had. If the sister is the only living relative, she had a right to the ring and probably took it so no one would steal it. It may be the only keepsake she'll have of her sister. If not the case, then I'm as appauled as you are. It all depends on the circumstances.

i don't know, it could be low. but then again it is her sister's ring, did she want it for money or for other reasons. I think we do not know the whole story.
