Artistic Therapeutics® is about the use of the creative process to increase self-awareness, thereby providing an avenue for positive transformation in your life.
In our Artistic Therapy Group on Gather, we discuss Art Therapy and the many ways in which we can all benefit by the process of exploration of the CREATIVE ARTS. The CREATIVE ARTS includes many art forms ~ literary arts, musical arts, visual arts, performing arts, and technological arts.
The Literary Arts come into play when journaling plays a signification role in the areas of SELF-DISCOVERY, HEALING and the COMMUNICATION process.
As we discover more about ourselves through the process of creating Art Journals, we learn other ways in which to relax and expand our minds.
There are areas in our lives that need healing ~ from past trauma, unrecognized hurts, grief, life changes ~ and writing out our innermost feelings is a way we can connect with 'self' to understand better those areas in our lives that have been affected in both negative and positive ways.
The Art Journal provides a vehicle in which we may direct our attention and focus on parts of ourselves that open up a dialogue of communication and understanding.
Artistic Therapeutics® (akin to Art Therapy) affords insight into self, others, and your relationships. The process of utilizing Artistic Therapeutics® brings forth a better understanding of the inherent creative and artistic gifts and talents not formerly recognized within oneself. Those latent gifts and talents are doors that open up to new vistas in life.
While psychotherapeutics is the branch of psychiatry that is concerned with psychological methods, Artitic Therapeutics®is concerned with artistic methods of treatment. The term, "treatment" is used here to refer to the management of ourselves and those matters in our lives that need our direct focus and attention. "Treatment" then here is the manner in which we deal with the management of our lives "artistically". From an artistic standpoint, we are able to hone in on areas of our lives that we would not otherwise recognize as problem areas or opportunity pathways. We can find ways to discover JOY and find happiness by recognizing and acknowledging our gifts and talents.
The goal is to initiate a positive transformation in your life, and create dialogue within yourself to discover more of yourself ~ this is the first step. It's about helping you!
WE can ALL use a positive transformation in our lives. We must take time out each day to slow down and care for our souls. We must discover the things that truly interest us ~ those things that make us happy. We must discover our "artistic" side and make use of our gifts and talents. By bringing forth our gifts and talents, we then begin to make discoveries about who we are, what we are made of, and we can then start the process to opening up whole new worlds to explore. These new discoveries bring forth a new circle of people, places and events into our lives. New creative and artistic friendships are formed that help to foster growth with regard to our gifts and talents, as well as our relationships.
Communication is KEY ~ verbal, literary and visual. [sight, sound, and the senses]
Art Journals are a way to bring forth not only our literary talents, but also our creative and artistic gifts. Once visuals are utilized, we can see for ourselves what is going on within ourselves. The visual arts are vital to continued growth and increased perception. When done in a Group setting, we can then begin to verbally discuss what has been created with others. This brings about an awareness of the perceptions and conceptual thoughts of others. This in turn broadens our horizons.
Art Therapy helps individuals cope better with stress, work through traumatic experiences, increase cognitive abilities, and have better relationships with self and others.
Exploration of Artistic Therapeutics® affords an avenue to better enjoy life-affirming pleasures of the creative experience.

Perhaps I'll fix that in time. :) Thanks again for putting this together for us.
At this point in time Jennifer . . . you are doing a fine job collaborating with Gideon and building a strong artistic and creative foundation for Gideon, as well as forming a strong family bond through art journaling. It may help you to unleash your drawing if you work with Gideon on incorporating drawing into your collaborative project. The Artists in here who work with charcoal, graphite and colored pencils may also inspire you.
You know what I say, "The time is NOW!" ~ wml

You make so many great points in your article. I'll seize one that really resonated with me tonight:
"WE can ALL use a positive transformation in our lives. We must take time out each day to slow down and care for our souls. We must discover the things that truly interest us ~ those things that make us happy. We must discover our "artistic" side and make use of our gifts and talents. By bringing forth our gifts and talents, we then begin to make discoveries about who we are, what we are made of, and we can then start the process to opening up whole new worlds to explore."
I think this point is so important. Central to our happiness is paying attention to WHAT WE LOVE. Writing, journaling, painting, music, etc., has so much to do with exploring and cherishing our passions. Making room for what we love in our lives is vital to living a joyful life. It helps keep our priorities straight. Lately in my art journal, I have been filling my pages with the things I love.
I might have a disaster of an outcome, but it'll still be a learning experience.
