Often when I cook, I'll think to myself, "Self, what yummy delights should I put into this bread today?" I'll look around the kitchen to see what exists in pantries and cupboards and then use poetry to guide me. 'How' you say? The other day, I made apricot almond bread. The consonance was as lovely as the bread turned out!
You wouldn't think that basil walnut flatbread would be poetry, but basil walnut flatbread is composed of three iambic feet, and 'a's sound good when spoken together--sort of an almost-consonance--sort of an exploration of the 'a' sounds.
Pecan pancakes--assonance galore!
Garlic Ganosh--delicious!
Chopped Vegge Chili--amazing!
Do you use poetry in the kitchen? Let your tongue guide you in more ways than one!

Read Natalie Goldbergs books on writing. She decided to become a poet as she was working in a restaurant in Ann Arbor.
