I have been reading articles lately about the safety of the meat supply in our country.
The lack of proper inpection, the self regulation of the corporate meat packing companies etc. With the focus brought to this issue by the video footage taken at meat packing companies in California, and the huge recall of meat, I think I just may go back to being a vegetarian. Right now, I try to choose organically grown produce, milk, meat etc. Sometimes it is too costly for me and I resort to "regular " food.
Here is a link to an article I read today about the meat industry.

In other news Lynn - meat inspectors are so overworked that in some plants - when they are there - they "watch from a high catwalk as hundreds of cows pass below, looking for drooping ears and facial paralysis and other signs of disease" In other words - Almost useless!
big money and profit the bottom line .and now it is easier not to be held accountable..
It's sad that people often have to choose between being safe and having enough money. Of course, if we were willing to to stop eating all the "quick" food, we'd probably have a little more money left, but ... we're all so busy. It's a sticky situation.
Buying from a local farmer isn't like going out and hunting a wild cow!! (As if there would be such a thing).
