Kate, this poem is powerfully phrased. The lie of a feigned kindness does silence, can completely explode worlds and love into a stunned and grieved loss of trust and hope. Technically sound and inspirationally profound fare. Thank you. The fractured photo as the background could not be more mood and tone perfect for this heart-rending poem.

I really enjoyed reading your rictameter of a complex relationship where one survives by destroying the spirit of another through selfish, manipulative acts. Considering the available space to explore such a relationship, this poem is marvel, indeed. Good job, Kate. It is being featured in the Rictameter Group.

What a haunting marriage of image, words and experience. This piece provoked me to feel that stunning, paralyzing feeling in center of my being when something big has been reduced and shattered by kindness.

Hi Kate,

You are an incredibly talented writer.

This poem is especially perceptive. It strike me as counter-intuitive to question kindness and see it as a manipulation.... but as soon as one reads your words it becomes obviously true and we recognize it in our own lives. Art of the highest order.

ohhhhh...shiver and shake...not good when kindness tears the fabric of an honest relationship apart...apathy..not wanting to rock the boat..ends up with no one really coming out for the better. Thanks, I need that.

This is quite deep and touches a nerve. Too many people are kind just because they want to get something from you. When you realize their insincerity, it hurts.
