Do you find, sometimes, after you have spent an inordinate amount of time creating that 'masterpiece' article, you only get a disappointingly small number of comments? Then to add insult to injury, after just a few days your labor of love gets buried under a thousand titles of trivia and other assorted nonsense. That happens to me, so I guess it happens to everyone.
Lately I have tried resurrecting some old stories that I posted over a year ago. After re-reading them I think, "hey, that's not so bad after all. How come it only got three comments?" So I print out my long forgotten masterpiece and pencil in a few changes and improvements, and give it a snappy new title. Then I set about re-typing my new, improved version. If you don't give your new version a different title you'll have to delete the original article, otherwise, with the same title, it will carry the original publication date and will still be buried where no one will find it.
It works!
The second time around, more often than not, my piece is much better received and garners many more comments. Since the first posting I've added some great new groups, and I have some new fans. Even people who commented the first time comment again, presumably because they had long ago forgotten all about the original.
It's worth a try.

When I started at gather about 15 months ago, the first few months I got from 3 to 6 comments. Now I get closer to 100 (OK, half are me responding to the commenter — still)
Of course, I write humor, which is an easier "sell." And people will read a 700 word humor article for three or four good laughs. Not as many read fiction for 3 or 4 good, well-written phrases.
Still, fiction can get critiqued if asked for. With humor that's hard to do.
Just keep writing and keep on pluggin'. That's how you get better and your readers get more discriminating.
In response to your article, always wonderfully written, you're absolutely right! Every time I reposted, I got so many comments I even believed I was becoming a writer!
ME, or whoever gather has made me down here...
