Teenagers who regularly watch pro wrestling
are more likely than their peers to engage in,
or become the victims of, dating violence. ..
That troubling finding comes from a new study
published in the journal Pediatrics.
The study, conducted by Wake Forest University researchers,
was based on interviews with more than 2,200 male
and female high school students.
Among those students surveyed, male pro wrestling viewers were
a stunning 77% more likely to have been the perpetrators of dating violence.
Females who regularly watched pro wrestling were even more likely
to engage in dating violence, at 170%.
Researchers suggested that viewing dramatized depictions
of violence on TV could have a desensitizing effect
on many teens.

MY RESPONSE TO STARGATE COMMAND
Since you cower behind your keyboard Stargate Command, I will make this message so everyone will see what a bias person you really are. I wanted to comment and post in YOUR article my views, but you made it so not only can you not comment, but you also can not rate it. Since you have done this, you have proven as FACT, that you are an angry Trekkie that lost all of his precious TV shows to something that people ACTUALLY watch. Once more, I will OPEN this discussion for EVERYONE to comment & RATE. My views are NOT absolute like yours. I will not cower in fear of what people may think. I am a FREE THINKER that doesn't allow arrogance as yours, rule my way of thinking and life in general.
Let's talk about the violence against woman. While these types of things do occure on wrestling, these pictures are false. The top & bottom picture may be of ECW, HOWEVER, it was NOT under the ownership of the WWE at the time of that particular pictures. Get something recent as your homework is a bit shakey at best. But why target JUST the WWE & ECW? Why not go into UWF? TNA? USWA? WCW? Smackdown? ICW? NWA? or any other backwater wrestling outfit? They ALL HAVE VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMAN.
No, This is simply an angry Trekkie that lost his favorite television shows. So you make this whole post up targeting the ONLY reason the you are unhappy bringing up something as horrible as this in the small hope that people won't watch ECW. Childish thinking in my opinion. Stargate Command, Did you realize that there is MORE violence against woman depicted in Movies? SCI FI Movies to boot. How about Music as woman are used as an object of obsession? We can go into Video games as well. How about the religions of the world that believe that woman are nothing more than slaves to men? Your whole post is a mockery of what ECW is really about.
Did you know that a female in TNA just had her jaw broken and wired shut by a MAN? Why are you not targeting TNA? Your self motivated BIAS and your ignorant article is the very reason that society today believe that everyone else is to blame for the way people become. What ever happened to good 'ol Mom and Dad doing thier JOBS as parents and teaching their children Right from Wrong?
I can tell you now, I grew up watching wrestling, playing video games, & watching ANY MOVIE I WANTED (Horror, action, comedy, ANYTHING). I have never once thought of hurting a woman in my ENTIRE LIFE. EVER. Do you know why Stargate Command? Because, while I got to do all the things I have mentioned, MY PARENTS TAUGHT ME RIGHT FROM WRONG. What was REAL and MAKE BELIEVE. It's not WWE's Fault or ECW's. It not the video games OR the movies fault the world of kids are turning out the way they are. ITS THE VERY SAME PEOPLE BLAMING EVERYTHING BUT THEMSELVES. PARENTS.
Do parents even know what their kids like to watch? Ever heard of Ed, EDD, & Eddy? How about the Backyardigans? Dora? Diego? How about SPONGEBOB? Did you know that Spongebob and Patrick beat up Sandy all the time or vice versa? There's violence against not only woman, BUT MEN TOO! Why are you not mentioning those? How about the daytime Soap Opera's? I seen on a soap a couple of months ago, this man hitting this woman while holding up some banquet thing. I mean come on, I could go on ALL day about the things on TV that are TEN TIMES WORSE than ECW.
Now, On a serious note, I do NOT agree with showing men hitting woman as it goes against EVERYTHING I believe in. One thing my Daddy always taught me was to never strike a woman, No matter what the circumstances. I do agree that it should be removed from programming period. However, I do NOT AGREE that because of the WWE and ECW ONLY, that men are beating up woman and should be stopped at all costs so we can watch Star Trek instead. BTW, Woman were objects of obsession and LUST by Captain James T. Kirk in your favorite TV show Star Trek. Which can also lead to violence such as rape when the woman says no. Your bias opinions are unsettling as they are targeting and blaming ONE source as all the problems on TV.
Sorry Stargate Command, they will not remove ECW and even if they did, it would not be to bring back Star Trek. How about using your strong belief against Men on woman violence, and start a petition on having them censored out of all programming not of the cable channel lineup? Or have it taken out of movies? Your alternative motives of making such a bias article is sickening that someone would use such a serious issue to get to watch reruns of Star Trek. Your worse than ECW. On a side note, did you know that you can buy all your favorite shows mentioned in your article on DVD and when ECW comes on, just pop in a DVD and you won't have to watch it. Stop mocking a serious issue with your childish motives.
I invite ALL whom has an opinion about this to PLEASE respond. Unlike Stargate Command, IÂ WILL allow people to speak their feelings about this matter. Please Rate my article as also, I encourage people to respond. My opinion is NOT absolute and there is NO motive. I am just a person that believe that WWE & ECW is NOT the reason that this type violence is happening as others contribute ALOT more than them.

The desensitizing argument has been used against a lot of things without true merit, correlation does not = cause.
I agree with the orignal person, trying to protect women, not this Joseph H. who cares more about himself and what he wants to do more than foregoing something that has been shown right there in that it harms others.
What really burns me up about this Joseph H. person is that he admits right there that these kinds of things *do* occur in wrestling: "these types of things do occure on wrestling" -Joseph H. but all he's concerned about is a little quibble whether it's one awful wrestling show or another brand of it. How inane.
Kudos to the first person, who sticks up for women. They are a real man, who is willing to stand up and make a difference. NOT this Joseph H. person who instead of helping is selfish and just thinking of himself.

This just goes to prove the first person commander was right even more. and whichever wrestling show it was !doesn't matter!, its like reading that cigarettes are linked to lung cancers, and this guy arguing that the picture of the cigarette isn't a Marlboro cigarrette but instead its a photo of the Camel brand cigarette, so therefore that means cigarettes must not cause cancer. how ridiculous is this guy joesph H.'s reasoning.
Plus it doesn't matter 1 iota if either viewing wrestling causes the imitation of violent behavior (you know it does, you've seen kids act it out & imitate wrestling moves) or whether those with the tendency to perpetrate violence are drawn like a magnet to wrestling. That just means it does !both!. People who enjoy that kind of stuff watch it. And enjoy it. Mock it. and imitate it. and cheer it on. So joseph H. you just proved it double. And therefore wrestling fans are more likely to be perpetrators. just like it said.

And rather than having cigarettes behind a counter and adults only, you're like somebody who wants to have cigarette commercials still on TV plus in time slots that can be seen by kids, and cigarettes marketed to children. To Patty H..........They already did that. That's already been done. They already did weigh out the odds, and already measured the national average and found the result. And the results revealed that wrestling viewers were ^HIGHER^. Did you not read the article, that has already been determined. And they already ^DID^ determine that wrestling viewers were over 77% higher in incidence of violence. And that is a scientific study, not just some biased wwe fan "joe" who is like someone "just kinda thinking to themselves gee". This was measured, and already shown in multiple scientific journals. We've seen it. This was already published by the Associated Press, Harvard University, CBS News, and the American Association of Pediatrics, the medical organization that helps your children.
Once again, Patty, this has already been found. And the result was that those people that had viewed Pro Wrestling were up to 177% higher in propensity to commit these acts.
People like Joe will insist something like the earth is flat because they just sat there and thought to themselves about it, and then will tell you it must be because just go look outside, "cuz it looks flat to me". But science has shown that the earth is not flat it's round. And it does not matter how much "joe" goes and points to the horizon, or the ocean and says see! see! look! the sea looks flat! so it must be! see you can look too! ... it doesn't change the facts, everybody now knows that it's round. Despite what "joe" sits in his bed room and thinks. It's already been proven. That's the difference between science and hearsay like Joes. And a funny thing about the truth, it doesn't matter how many people ^believe^ in it, or not. It remains true. In the Dark Ages, everyone in the world was 100% convinced that the earth was flat. Doesn't matter if 500 million people don't believe this, it's just a fact. No matter if Joe wants to hear it, or not.
We've seen the research. This Joe goes off blaming anything and everything, and then therefore goes around telling everyone it's everything, so DO nothing. To whoever brought up that smoking example above, that was good, because this is exactly like that. What joe tries to claim is that oh, everything in the universe causes violence so don't try to help. This is like him claiming, well, cigarettes aren't the only thing that causes cancer, so keep puffing. Joe's argument is like cancer can be caused by the sun, and smoking, radiation, asbestos, and the Human T cell leukaemia virus, so therefore give it up, and don't try, you can't get rid of it so just don't do anything to prevent cancer and just let cancer alone. Because Joe would come up with something next like... what are you going to do ban the sun! This kind of "joe" reasoning is just obtuse. Luckily, people know better, and will help you when you get cancer, and there are sensible people in the world that will help you. Not joe.
Another thing, studies have shown, that it's ^NOT ALL^ violence that causes an increase. When violence is shown on a tv show where the person is looked down upon, then that violence shown actually stops it. Like a police show where something violent is shown, but then the guy is caught, punished, tried in court, and jailed. And looked upon as distasteful. That type of show even if it contains something violent, actually stops it, because people and kids dont want to be that person. But wrestling is exactly the opposite. When violent acts were rewarded, that's when it is responsible for an increase. Like wrestling where kids cheer, and adults applaud the more and more the one beats on the other one, and the one that did the most violent acts is treated like a hero. That is what is responsible for it, and that is exactly what wrestling does. So don't go around claiming everything violent does, it doesn't. That's a typical claim by someone who is not knowledgeable. The type where people cheer the more people beat on someone, including a woman, like Wrestling, is exactly the kind that does it.
This Joseph H. goon just wants to watch more men strongarming women for himself and doesn't care what the impact is for others.
And shame on you for selling out beating women to get yourself points! I didn't even realize that there's all these gather groups like Point Puffers, and Point Hogs. And to do that at the expense of violence against girls. That's just disgusting of you Joseph H.
