Mail Art Envelope Front and Back
My envelopes, the ones I send to someone, have been evolving. As with most everything else I do evolving is part of the process.
Sometimes the envelopes are simple. Sometimes they arrive with elaborate additions and attachments that I've created as well as additions and attachments from the Postal Service and other points along the journey.
It's all part of the process and mystic of Mail Art even as an envelope leaves my hand. It's fun to discover what's in the mail, inside as well as outside, with Mail Art.
Recently I bought another stack of simple white envelopes for use in sending my Mail Art swap pieces on to others. In the back of my skull I've been thinking about making my own envelopes and so have been gathering ideas. I'm close to the point where I will begin making envelopes from scratch. Before I do that, I'll probably use most of these envelopes I've bought.

Mixed Media
Mail Art Envelope, Front and Back
5.75 x 4.5 inches
Blank White Envelope
Acrylic
Ink
Digital Drawing/Painting Artistamp/Faux Postage
Tear-able Clear Postal Tape
In my evolving process this is where my envelopes are now. All of my envelopes are not necessarily this way. I enjoy exploring the envelopes as well as creating what I place inside the envelope.
Addresses are intentionally scrambled on envelopes (Photoshop) before I post them to the Net. Addresses are easily read by the post office for delivery.
This envelope does not have postage stamps on it because it was going to another country. Stamps were added at the post office when I sent the envelope, and contents, on the way.

very inspiring Wrick!
thank you Clarke - it's fun to think about an envelope going through the mail. when the envelope is like this... i can see it happening as soon as i give it to the counter person. when we are done and i'm turning to go, they are often turning too... as they walk off i've noticed that occasionally they'll bump into a corner of their counter. i take that as a compliment because i've noticed they are usually studying the envelope when that happens. some have even made comments to me... most have been positive. *grin* makes a moment in my day.
aloha Astrid - hey give it a try, it's fun to do and to think about what kind of reaction your piece might get. btw - if you start doing ATCs let me know. i'd like to see. may be we could work out a swap.
thanks Toni. it's fun. once i start thinking along these lines and know my materials, ideas become exciting to try.
