Keeper books

I know most of you on gather are readers and love the written word. If you're like me, you have tons of books in your house. Sometimes I have to thin out my shelves. But there are many books I can't part with no matter how little room I have. Besides my Jane Austen collection I have numerous series that take up a lot of space. Robert Jordan books, Terry Goodkind and many more. What books are on your forever keep it shelf?

Susan, I'm so bad that I want to keep all my books. If they're good, I can't bear to give them away. The result? Bookcases in every room, books stacked under my bed, nearly 50 boxes stored where I work. How can I give away books that gave me such pleasure? And what an investment. Too bad they don't become more valuable with time.

You mean that every book isn't a KEEPER...LOL....I too find it hard to get rid of anything when it comes to books....

My sister was reading a book the other day about de-cluttering your life. The book said if you have more books than will properly fit on your bookshelves (no stacking, or doubling up), then you should get rid of the ones that don't fit. So what if the book that doesn't fit, is the de-cluttering book?

My husband and I are both hoarders when it comes to books, and it's painful to get rid of any of them (although we have to, periodically). But all my Stephen King hardcovers are on my forever-keep shelf.

i hate the thought of having to throw out any books. i have even kept books that I bought for my kids when they were babes.

i'd hate to have to get rid of my Wilbur Smith's, clive Cussler,Sydney Sheldon and Mary Higgins Clark. There are heaps more that I wouldn't throw away either.

I've kept my sets - Laura Ingalls Wilder, Elswyth Thane, Maud Hart Lovelace, Mitford series by Jan Karon and a lot of children's books. Some characters became part of the family long ago and can't be separated. I did weed, purge and give away many books when we moved. I didn't have space and decided someone else should enjoy them. I still kept too many!
