Just a few questions here about the Gather/Authorhouse partnership:
What does Gather stand to make on each book by an author published under their imprint? Do they make a percentage when the author orders one or more of the so-called services, such as editing?
Did the Gather management actually look into the background of Authorhouse, formerly known as First Books, before jumping on their bandwagon? As someone noted elsewhere here, Authorhouse is one step above PublishAmerica, if that.
What does Authorhouse charge in the way of fees for each author? Is there a discount to Gather members?
Doesn't anyone within Gather management realize that Authorhouse is a subsidy, or vanity, publisher? Or do they just not care, what with the dollar signs clouding their vision?
In my opinion, this "partnership" is simply another way to rip off the dreams of authors. Shame on you, Gather.

I for one had no idea about this publishing house.
Although I would have done my research before entering into a contract with them but I know some people just assume gather is looking out for their best interests.
Thanks for keeping us informed:)
They had to pay punitive damages for publishing a book that libeled someone. On the other hand, there is also information that suggests (source: Wikipedia) that they published Legally Blonde, later made into a movie by Reese Witherspoon. I do not know if this is true.
