Points, friends, literary worth. I just read another article by someone who is starting a worthwhile group. Wow! New concept! It's not about points for this person. It's about content. Well, he or she will be dead in the water in three months. So I'm here for points. I'm a point sucker. I make friends, too. Good friends. I write. Sometimes I write good articles; however I'm a point gatherer. So! Fess up! Why are you here?
Do you play games? Shame on you.
Do you chat? Shame on you.
Gather Gurus are changing the way it has been done. They are going to invent a new world. Not me. I want points.

Some people think if you are here for less than they are you are less of a human being. Me, I'm here for it all, but I do love my Macy's gift cards.
I consider shrugging my shoulders and just playing games and starting chats like everyone else seems to, but... it won't make me happy. So I plug along hoping that when I write something that takes some effort someone will notice, and each time I log back in to Gather it's like Christmas for me... "Who commented?" "Did they like part of it; did it touch their heart?" Every comment is a special present, and they make me so happy...
LOL
So I guess I'm here for the friendship and points!
So I started connecting to more people and participating in games and commenting on chatty articles. That helped me get more readers.
After being active on Gather for about 8 months, I now find that there is a small, but consistent group of people who comment on most of my postings. They seem to enjoy my writing style and are very encouraging and compimentary. But I wouldn't mind some constructive criticism too. I still rarely reach 20 comments on my articles and often fewer than 10. But that's the breaks. I realize most people are here for the socializing and the points.
I have come to enjoy the social aspects too. I really like most of the people I come in contact with. I'm not very concerned with the points. I haven't cashed any of mine in yet -- it isn't a very large amount considering how long I have been Gathering.
I guess I'm one of those everything people. Points are important too. Those cards allow my family to do things we wouldn't usually be able to.
Points? Yeah, the points are OK. Friends; connections; groups....wonderful way to get to know a variety of people and their thoughts, I'm not a writer but I don't mind putting in my two cents worth every now and then,
What I have noticed since August 2006 is that Gather markets to different demographics and provides different messages to those demographics. So while it may have been initially targeted to writers, it has been, is being and will still be targeted to different groups for different reasons. That's how you build a diverse membership folks.
The sandbox is big enough for everyone.
I come here for entertainment and friendship. The points are the motivator to make me spend more time here than I normally would.
