Thursday was Valentine's Day in our kindergarten class. With anticipation the children came to circle with their homemade Valentine Boxes to share love notes and conversations. The images speak for themselves. Watching my little ones share friendship and love made my heart smile. Come share the moment.

Danielle, it is refreshing to watch the innocence of childhood play out. I love to capture special moments when the children are unaware that a camera is even in the room.
I especially like the picture of one of my Dads reading a "love story". When I asked if he would like to read, he was overjoyed and you can tell from the photo , he enjoyed it thoroughly.
Gretchen, Valentine's Day in a kindergarten classroom is a joy to behold. The children take each card seriously....and as they read or try to decipher the contents of the card in hand, you can see absolute wonder in their eyes.

You took me right back to my son's kindergarten class. The wonder at everthing is contagious! I miss seeing that young innocence on a daily basis. Your class looks like so much fun!
I can't remember which year it was (first, second or third), my son's teacher had everyone give a Valentine to every other childin the class, writing one thing that they liked about that person on the card. It was so cool and every child felt special after receiving so many compliments.
Bob - wow - I loved each and every picture of these kids and my spirit was right there - course, I want those embroidered jeans that one little girl had on - this was so inspirational to my inner child - what fun - just joy in the moment - cutting and pasting and creating. What marvels and how much more richer all of our hearts and spirits would be if we could go back to childhood again and be one of your students - these kids will forever carry the love of creating that you've instilled in them throughout their lives - thank you so much on behalf of the wee one I am raising (my inner child ) for all you do - this was excellent! Madame Donna, Anytime you are in Boston for a conference just send me an email. We love volunteers in the room. I have an "open classroom" and parents have my permission to walk in any time without calling. Of course, once your in the classroom, I will put you to work.
Liz...that's exactly what I was hoping to catch. I know some people like the posed shot but I prefer to catch them unaware. I think then you have a "real" image of the moment.
Nancy...that's the thing about kids...really, you can do a lot with them to make things interesting. Kids today are really up for "doing"...it's adults who plunk them in front of TV's and Video Games. To me, a child's time is too valuable to waste on watching a video.
Roy, I encourage my parents to be apart of our learning community...and once I "rope" them in I give them worthwhile tasks of working with children. Some teachers use volunteers to do run-offs, etc..I would rather have them taking small groups of children and working with them.

Uh oh Mrs. E. the young man holding the panda book, I don't think his mom signed the photo release! HA HA! just kidding. He is very handsome and I am so impressed with the way he is holding the story so everyone can see. He had so much fun that day. I love your open classroom it means so much to us.
Bridget, when I asked your husband if he would like to read a story, he said, "I would be most honored".....and it made my heart just jump a beat because it's so important that children see both men and woman being apart of their early education. And I was IMPRESSED....he most certainly did hold the book correctly so that everyone could see! Kudos to Mr. McDonald!
Aww, this made me want to be a kid again! I loved Valentine's Day as a child. When I was a kid we still celebrated every holiday at school and had parties and fun for each. They don't seem to do that so much anymore. Too bad. It was fun and brings back pleasant memories for me and I'm sure tons of other people who are "all grown up" now. : )
Both Danny and I are signing up to be in your Kindergarten class next year! Hannah can move up to first grade but we just love you class so much we are staying!
As always you have done a wonderful job capturing the joy of children as they learn. It is so nice to see the intent look on some children's faces. That last little girl is an artistic diva!!
I loved seeing these photos. Other teachers tell me I´m crazy, but I can´t wait to get back to teaching reading to six year olds, even if they hand me more than twenty! You clearly run a tight classroom that really gets these kids to love reading, bob.
