There is a lot of money in the West of the U.S. I'm listening to an audio book on the Fortune 400 that I got from the library, and I was fascinated by the shift of wealth that has happened inside of the Silicon Valley and other western areas. Of course, Bill Gates is the most famous of the westerners, but there are several others. I guess sitting in my little midwest state of Ohio keeps me in a bit of a box.
Leading the way of the Western money is the technology sector. Creativity has spurred huge fortunes out of ideas and microchips. The traditional money has been in industry and finance, but now you have all kinds of people getting into technology. The way of the store is transforming into an ecommerce world. More and more people are selling things like men's goth boots and other stuff online. Niche marketing is making a killing. Then, there are others who use the internet to promote, like this Portland Oregon photographer.
There's no doubt that the 21st century is the way of the computer. New jobs are being created all of the time in this sector. It's been said that those entering college now will be applying for jobs that don't even exist yet because of the quick change of information. And in all this, the west continues to lead the way.
