Lately, I've been taking a good hard look at my finances. Of course, the tax season always causes you to do that, but my wife and I are talking about having kids. This brings up a whole new world when it comes to your finances. Your spending is directed for the rest of your life towards the care of your child. We do a good job already of not making unnecessary purchases, but we're going to get some help.
We've been searching for a good Cincinnati financial planner for a while, and I think we are going to go with Primerica. They have an interesting take on life insurance, which is 100% term 100% of the time. I guess this makes sense for someone who is young and doesn't have a lot to spend on whole life, but I read a stat that 99% of term policies expire because people can't afford to renew them when they expire in 20 years or whatever. I guess the philosophy is to have enough in your investments elsewhere, but I kind of like the idea of diversifying and having guaranteed returns.
Well, my main goal is to get a good plan going forward. That way, I can sit back, take a bath, drink some tea, read a book and relax. I like the idea of someone else helping to guide me in this area, so I can focus my efforts elsewhere.
