Recently diagnosed with fibro, I found a good deal of relief after taking the cough medicine prescribed for my bronchitis.
Turns out it has codeine in it. Sigh...
I'm not willing to become an addict, but it sure is nice to NOT be miserable.
C'est le vie!
I use herbal therapies, and the aforementioned rest, to treat my fibro.
Still, some days - like today - I am near tears with pain and exhaustion. Unfortunately, I must work for a living, so I have to just suck it up and go on.
I'm just really thankful I didn't have this when my kids were little.
Well, I don't have any problem sleeping. In fact, I sleep like the dead, so I don't get it.
My youngest daughter also has fibro, and when antidepressants were prescribed for her in high school, she couldn't get up to go to school or function on even the smallest dose. She chose to live with the pain.
I would be afraid of oxycontin. A local chiropractor told me chiropractic wouldn't help fibro. There are days when I couldn't bear the touch of a massage.
My MD said Guaifenesin "might" help, but I would get a lot worse before I got better.
Walking and exercise in the warm water therapy pool did help, but I haven't been able to do that lately.
Gabapentin caused a stroke-like effect where I lost almost all balance and muscle control in my ankles and feet. It took physical therapy and a long time to come back from that. Over a year later, I still walk with a cane.
I'd like to try acupuncture, but my insurance won't cover it. Nor will it cover ongoing physical therapy, which I found to be helpful and perhaps would get me walking without the cane.
I take vitamin E, pumpkin seed oil, flax seed oil, and oil of evening primrose and they seem to help. My main help comes from taking 600 mg of iboprohpen every morning and a hydrocodone before bedtime. If I skip either of those, it is just a matter of time before the aching sets in.
Despite the meds, sometimes the aching is just too much, and I have to lie down or stretch out in the recliner and take a nap. Normally I sleep well at night, wake up feeling okay, not even stiff or sore, but I do have trouble falling asleep some nights.
Great idea to pull everyone together to share information.
