A while back, I used Lulu.com to self-publish some collections of short stories. My experience there was quite smooth and without any problems. I know a lot of these print-on-demand places catch a lot of flak because so many of them rip off writers with up-front fees for doing next to nothing, but Lulu.com is not like that. Basically, they just print the books for you and offer a place to do the sales. The rest is up to you, as the writer, and that's pretty much how it goes in the publishing world.

I have done four books, two of them small and two of them regular 6x9, 170+ page books, and have not had a single problem. I did T'ain't Nobody's Business with CreateSpace, which is owned by Amazon, and had no problem there, either, except that I did not get the distribution to other online bookstores that I get with Lulu.
