When will the Chevrolet Volt be ready?

The EcoVElectric has a base of $9,995 for base and $11,496 fully equipped. It looks like an SUV.

Does anyone have updates on these cars?

$98,000 is too steep for me, but the projected sticker price I saw about 3 months ago was $105,000. This gives me hope that, once in production, Tesla will have vehicles in a more accessible price range.

Last I heard, the EcoVElectric EcoV is a 25 mph by law, Low Speed Vehicle. It could replace golf carts in Peachtree City, GA, but I'm not sure where else it would be usable.

I don't have any info on the Chevy Volt.

It's a Roadster. being launched in CA. The Guv, Silicon Valley types, etc have pre-ordered these, so it will get some press. Compare the price to other high end sports cars, and it isn't out of line.

I'm waiting to see what they do with their coupe/sedan models for the rest of us. The range between charges seems to make it more promising than the electrics from other companies thus far.

Interesting. Electric vehicles are going to have to make some truly dramatic improvements in price, range, and speed for them to gain widespread acceptance.

Too bad it's a violation of federal law to convert existing vehicles to biofuel and/or hybrid operation. That's a major stumbling block to the country's ability to go "green" with any appreciable speed.

Hydrogen gets my vote, although electric vehicles can have a place in the mix. Biofuels don't seem to be taking off either. I'm in the middle of ethanol land yet there's a real lack of places to buy it.

I agree that hydrogen is interesting ... but I only know of a couple places to get it. As to ethanol, E85 cars have to be filled with E85 or gasoline, but not mixed which makes them difficult to take out of area.

Thanks for the article! I think that electric cars need to span the whole spectrum of car types if they are going to fit in to our car-centric society, so I see this as a good thing, even if it isn't for me...

I have found a lot of useful updates on hybrids and plug-in hybrids at Hybrid Jungle and its forum (which has a nice group).

With the price of gas rising so quickly, it almost might be cheaper to take out a mortgage and get one of these cars than to pay for the gas to drive a regular car!
