Aisling describes how she created the above Diary Journal Page (a/k/a an ART DIARY).
Some people call these collage-style pages Art Journals; others call these collage-style pages Diary Journals, and still others call these collage-style pages ART DIARIES (a/k/a Artistic Diaries).
No matter what you call them, they are all beautiful, and the concept is the same. The idea is to keep a consistent record of your daily thoughts, sights, ideas, activities, challenges, emotions and feelings.
Here is the description that Aisling gives of the making of the above shown ART DIARY page, which Aisling calls a Diary Journal Page:
"One thing about these collages is that I never know what they're about until they're finished. I pick images & text at random. Then I whip out the gel medium and start gluing things in place, working solely with what "looks good" as opposed to any particular message or pattern to it.
When it's finished, I can see what's going on inside myself, in a way. It's amazing insight.
Today, I half-covered the words "harsh realities" and "lose hope" with the banner phrase, "a second chance." Still, "conflicting messages," deliberately split, lingers fully in sight.
The baby turtle scampering for the sea seemed right to me today. I'm not certain why, yet, but it does.
At the end of the rainbow, I have phrases such as "inspiration" and "the result could be enormous." And I used lots of colored gold & copper leaf there as well.
I think it speaks for itself. Then again, all of these collages do. Yes, it's a message.
Wishing you rich and creative days filled with dazzling inspiration,

With that beautiful and creative description from Aisling, you get the idea of the making of an ART DIARY.
Each day is different, and each day provides the seeds for the making of an artistic creation that is useful and meaningful to you.
While Aisling's choice of images and text was done at random, and was based solely on what she thought looked good to her; you may choose to be more focused and intentional, i.e., your choices of images and text may be based solely on a particular feeling that you have that day. You may take an entirely different approach each day, and for each page, based upon your mood that day.
One day, you may focus more on the color and design of the page versus the actual words or phrases. Or, you may focus more on the materials and medium that you use . . . i.e., magazines only or newspapers only. Or, you may choose to use wallpaper scraps or textile strips. You may even want to create a vintage-style ART DIARY with old media clippings or old photographs. Wouldn't that look nice if you happen to be going down memory road on a particular day.
It is really up to you as to how you want to approach the makings of your ART DIARY.
You may decide to simply base your entire ART DIARY on the beauty of nature, or the beauty of fashion, or the beauty of artwork, or the beauty in photography, or the beauty in interior design, etc. You may even take a different approach, and choose to work only with WORDS.
If you are an Artist who likes pen & ink, you may choose to utilize your talent fully in the making of your ART DIARY . . . i.e., a totally pen & ink conception from front cover to back cover with the result being a finished pen & ink ART DIARY PORTFOLIO.
Animators can also visualize this pen & ink concept and create based upon their animation skills.
This same concept works well for Interior Designers or those working on their home or garden. I call this a "HOME & GARDEN ART DIARY". Materials for the new designs for your home can be included in your HOME & GARDEN ART DIARY; or the various seeds or plants from or for your new garden.
If you are focusing on fitness and health, you may choose to create an ART DIARY that chronicles your progress and findings.
Suppose you just want to explore your gifts and talents and learn more about the stuff you're made of . . . well, this is the perfect creative project for you -- create an ART DIARY, and continue to keep an ART DIARY, maybe even several of them.
You may choose to pick images on purpose without regard so much to the visual beauty, but more in line with the phrase or words that speak directly to what you are feeling at the moment.
Some people work better with overall concepts, while other people like to go with the flow. Still others like a purposed plan (even if it is in segments).
The STYLE is yours exclusively! The contents of your ART DIARY are the outpourings of your soul. When I speak of "soul" here, it is the expression of who you are as a unique individual on this planet, who has purpose and meaning, and much to offer to the world that no other person can offer. What you have to bring forth is something that many are waiting on. . . . even you wait for the curtain to rise at every level of your life walk as your life unfolds. And, we know that CHANGE is to always be expected in life. CHANGE indicates growth. What better way to discover the progressive changes in your life than to keep an ART DIARY!
The meaning of your ART DIARY will make a difference in your life and to YOU. The consistent effort you put forth in the making of your ART DIARY is well worth your creative, artistic and intellectual while.
If you have never made an ART DIARY before, and you start on one for the first time, you will soon find the process to be more beneficial to you than not. It is well worth it. You will discover more about yourself, your skill, your talent, your thoughts, your LIFE.
This day can be the beginning of your creation of a new journey into the artistic and creative world just by starting your own personal ART DIARY page. The cover is up to you. You can buy a plain/blank journal and create an ART DIARY out of it; or, you can make the entire ART DIARY page by page and then do your binding whenever you are at a point to start a new ART DIARY.
The artistic creations that you make while working on your ART DIARY are not only therapeutic, but also CREATIVE, beautiful, and full of your own thoughts, hopes, dreams, and artistic ideas.
Why not get started on your ART DIARY TODAY!
CREATIVE Blessings ~
Rene A.

The images and words that you have gathered together thus far will give you an indication of what you are focusing your attention on (from a soul/spirit standpoint).
I am so glad that you have already gotten started on your ART DIARY. It works hand-in-hand with our ARTS JOURNAL COLLABORATIVE PROJECT.
I can't wait to see how your ART DIARY progresses as well; and we all look forward to hearing your thoughts along the way.
Creative and Artistic Blessings to you Linda!

As for a theme. I think I'll have the theme be whatever I feel at the time I sit down to create a page. I guess that theme could be called surrendering to the muse and self discovery, right? *grin*
