I want to fall in love with the power of the written word again. I've been reading through a lot of the old things I've written, and I think I'm at the point where I can start working on the edits I need to make to Michael's Story and Tequila Sunset maybe too. One thing at a time. The novel is likely more salable than the short story collection, but the shorts have at least been published here and there so I know that there's something there if I can just edit it together into a cohesive whole and tighten it to be something extraordinary. I can do that, right? Of course I can. I just have to start... actually doing it, yes.
I promised myself I wouldn't start anything new, writing project wise, until I at least finish up one of the unfinished works I've got moldering in my head. But I've been really into the pictures at Shorpy lately, and they make me want to write little stories based on the pictures. Little drabbles or something - fictional histories for the people in the pictures, especially the anonymous ones. If I keep getting story ideas for them, I might eventually start writing them down. Maybe even start a history drabbles group/community if anyone else would be interested in doing that too.
I also think more bands need to name themselves after historical events. FDR and the New Deals, Napoleonic Wars, The Manifest Destiny, The Thule Conspiracy - come on, these are great names for bands. You know you want to do it , musicians. I'm talking to you. Name yourself after a historical event today - it could be a whole trend!
