Grouply

Thankfully I haven't gotten an email from them. If I don't know who the email is from then I don't open it up though.

I've never heard of it and am glad.

The only spam I am getting is from people warning me about grouply. They are telling me that yahoo has sent and email to all group owners about it. I have received no such warning and I own many groups. No one in the groups I own has complained of actual problems. It's hysteria.

A lot the groups I mod here in the US have been hit... huge headache all for the sake of convenience for those who see no problem with giving a third party all their group passwords or spamming other people. It turns out it's a setting in Grouply that they have to turn off, and most can't be bothered. That's why it's becoming a problem... it's those who can't be bothered turning it off. The idea sounds nice, but their spam is killer. We were getting 8-10 spams a day, not just to the owner's address, but to the members too, until we started making sure no one on our group uses grouply.

Any chance of copying me any an example of this spam? I have never seen one spam message from Grouply, either in my inbox or on any of the 90 groups to which I belong.

There was an invite to Grouply feature, which was a way of sending an email to a group, but any group member could send that email with or without Grouply. Anyway Grouply have severely curtailed that in case that was being abused by a spammer. But I still would like to see an example, please.

sure... I'll look... I think I killed them like I do all spam, but I'm going to ask one of my co-mods. If grouply would take care of the spam problem, more people might be interested and less likely to ban em...

I am a member of so many groups that I found it very difficult to keep up with all of them. Grouply makes it easy. You can search and browse across all your groups at once and even view a cross-group event calendar. You can have one Smart Digest email (which I love) sent to you at the end of each day that summarizes what's going on across all your groups, highlighting what's interesting to you and hiding what's not.

I've found Grouply to be a huge time-saver for me and I thought it would also be helpful for others. Enjoy!

They are all exactly the same except for the name at the end and the r= at the end of the link! I belong to several hundreds of Yahoo Groups and I started to receive enough of Grouply Bullsh*t I had to write a filter to delete them. I retrieved this one from my trash!

Thanks, John. I trashed all the Grouply messages I got, like I do all my spam.

Now you can go to http://www.grouply.com/owner_controls.php to opt your groups out of grouply... you type in your -owner address, and it sends a confirmation e-mail to it with an authorization code to confirm you want it... once that's done, people can't use grouply any more for e-mail.
