Windows Vista... Yuck (beware- this is a rant)

 My computer died, the motherboard went out, so it was time to buy a new one. I figure five years wasn't too bad- right?

Went down to bestr buy and bought what I figured was a nice new machine. It had vista on it but... no big deal right? they've got the bugs worked out after all these years?? Wrong.

 

Well maybe the bugs are gone- but none of my older programs were supported to run on it... It's pretty lame when they say- we now longer support this version with vista... buy new software. Well totalling it all up I'm into "new" software to the tune of $1,800 !! I mean holy shit!

 Also my scanner and external hard drive aren't compatible either. I could get drivers- but the software to run them--- "isn't supported" anymore.

 

Well I hope you are all ewnjoyning this post- as it will be the only Vista post that I am going to make before turning it back into the Best Buy for a refund. Call me old fashioned- but I ordered a machine- with XP- online and will get it in a week.

 

So much for keeping up with technology... thank again Billionaire Bill (Gates).

 Anyone else have these sort of frustrations with Vista???

I know my fiance's laptop isn't compatible with our printers, etc. It also doesn't like certain versions of Adobe reader. I haven't even bothered to put any software on it yet (though he's asking me to put Office on it).

Same thing happened to me! My 'puter with XP had the motherboard go out, so I went to best buy and got a new one. I looked at lots of different stores trying to find an XP, but no one carries it anymore. wound up with Vista. Crap! i hate it, hate it, hate it! XP was great, I don't know why they decided to screw with something that was working fine!

Hey Matt...my heart bleeds for you. I went through the exact same thing last year. Timing couldn't have been worse...I was in the middle of editing my book with my editor so out of desperation I bought the only tower left on the self. It had the dreaded Vista operating system. I too went through the whole software/hardware incomparability thing but fortunately I was able to fool the system to accept a lot of it anyway.

Have you tried loading your old software by changing the compatability settings?

Another suggestion is to dump the Vista operating system by re-formatting the hard-drive and install XP if you have the software.

I didn't bother to even add any extra software or printers to my laptop because it has Vista on it. I have it networked with my desktop, which has XP, so I can print what I need when I need it. At least my Office 2000 still works with Vista!

I've had no software compatibility problems; I've been quite surprised to find most everything working on my new laptop.

I do notice a performance hit, however. Simply turning off Aero works wonders, but that's the best thing about Vista just about. I use third party security apps so, thanks for the offer anyway, Microsoft.

I really don't mind Vista as much as I thought I would. Sorry you're having a huge hassle, though.

I too hate Vista. And my friend has the same problem with her printer. The printer is good as new but the damn thing isn't compatible with Vista either. Crock of sh*t if you ask me!

I've heard a lot of problems with Vista, but then again, I can't recall anyone telling me success stories of operating systems in casual conversation. I'll stick to the operating systems I have already. And here is an image that I found on the web in response to Jeff.

I was wondering if the programs were compatiable or not. Didn't really think they were. I won't be getting one with vista on it.. thanks for sharing..

I just got a new compter too. I have to say that, generally, I don't like change and it has taken me a while to begin getting used to Vista. I didn't have any problems going from Windows ME to XP. I miss XP, but I am a little nervous about ditching it in favor of XP - I don't want to have to come back to Vista if XP goes the way of Millenium. I do like the sidebar and my gadgets, but I hate the folder system.

I have heard so much bad about Vista that I am afraid to get a new computer. I will keep my old computer with XP for as long as I can keep it working.

Vista is the worst operating system next to Windows ME. This one actually controls everything you do. No old software, nothing is supported, must register everything you install, etc...

Glad to hear that you returned it. Next time definitely do some research before changing operating systems. There isn't one good article out there about Vista. Seems like XP machines

Dell and all the other major manufacter's still put out systems with XP pre-installed if you wish.

LOL! We took the cheaper route! We killed that sucker and installed XP again. Everything that used to work, still does. I'll wait until they get all the bugs out, thanks.
We were just talking about this today. And I said...let's just go with a MAC and screw Bill Gates and Microsoft...the greedy Bastard. BTW...that's my usual ending sentence whenever we talk about Microsoft.

i'm feeling better now that vista is out of the house. I'm on the old laptop and patiently waiting for the new CPU to arrive... about a week or so they say.

I haven't heard anything but frustration with the Vista. I haven't had to buy a new computer yet. Hoping I don't have to anytime soon.

Vista has some nice stuff if your totally retool for it, but my guess is that it will go the way of ME.
