| The Gather Help Forum for 06 Feb, 2008 |
As the Gather Guide team is currently in transition. The AidStation articles are on hold. I will be posting the Help Forum article everyday until the new team of guides are ready to start.
To find out more about the transition please click here.
Gather Support has been working on resolving the problems we are having after the recent upgrade. I sent a list of problems to the Support team and have heard back from them about some of the issues. I am pasting the responses below:
| 1. Gather keeps logging some members out after a few minutes at a time:
Two new front end servers were deployed Wednesday afternoon to help address the overall site instability that was causing some members to be promoted to log in repeatedly. Additional Q/A work was completed yesterday afternoon and our site engineers are confident that this issue should now be resolved.
|
| 2. Publishing problems:
Prior to this site update the article editor would recognize font style attributes when content was pasted from Word or Wordpad. But, currently the article editor no longer recognizes these attributes in either Firefox or IE. Some members have reported that font color attributes are not being recognized either.
Our developers are aware of these issues and they have confirmed that the article editor on the Publish an article page, will not allow you to copy/paste from a word processing program like MSWord and still retain your Font Name, Family, and Size settings. However, you should still be able to keep your Color, Underline, Bold, Italic settings.
Our Q/A engineers believe these problems may be caused by the code changes that were implemented to address the publishing issues we were experiencing previously (article text running together when content was copy/pasted from MSWord). A fix has not been identified, as our engineers are still looking into these publishing issues. But, I will provide additional updates as I receive them.
In the interim, members can work around these article formatting issues by manually applying the style changes they want from within the HTML editor screen of the publish article page.
|
| 3. Problems with Most Viewed" and "Updated Profiles" people listing(s):
The "Most Viewed" for the day does not appear to reflect correct data, and the "Updated Profiles" pages do not progress properly (members from page 1 reappear on subsequent pages). Our site engineers are aware of both of these issues and they are currently working on a fix that is slated for deployment by late February.

Hope your gathering is going well, if you have any questions or suggestions, or just want to say hi, please feel free to drop by any time.
I'm pretty sure that posting those links is against Gather's policy, but didn't know what I should do.
Hi Jan Funny that you mention it. I actually had some emails about spams etc from a few members and asked Gather Support about these. I received a reply from them today. I am pasting the reply below (on a seperate comment). There are some names and addresses that you can contact about TOS violations and spamming. I hope this helps.
If you ever receive messages in your Gather inbox that appear suspicious, please let Gather know right away by email at support@gather.com, or you can forward a copy of the message you've received (including who it was sent by) by Gather private message to the attention of either Chuck Maguire (username: chuck) or Carolyn Richards (username: crichards). You should consider any private message suspicious if it:
· Tells you to respond to a real email address, rather than a Gather private message.
· Seems to offer you money or a material benefit of some sort.
· Requests that you transfer money, to anyone, in any way.
· Is sent by someone who pretends to know you well, but their name does not look familiar to you.
· Expresses interest in a romantic or sexual meeting of some sort, especially if they tell you to visit a particular website off of Gather or tell you to respond to an email address, rather than by Gather's private message system.
Gather take such private message scams very seriously, and will investigate them right away when they are reported.
Thanks!
But then again, if you have a look at earnings.gather.com, it is stated
Gather's top contributors can earn cash instead of Gather Points! To qualify, you need to earn $50 (about 3,000 points) per month. You can cash out as often as you'd like. We'll send you either a check or PayPal® payment.
According o this information 60 Gather points Equal $1. So I think we are safe to estimate that around 60-65 points make a $1.00. I hope this helps. :)
