Why I Don't Trust Mitt Romney

"How do you feel about Mitt Romney?" a Republican friend asked me the other day. "I don't trust him", I said. "Why?" she wanted to know. Here is what I told her.

If you look at his position on various issues, it has changed drastically over the last few years depending upon who he was trying to impress and what he was trying to achieve. He is the king of flip-flops. Here is a link that supplies you with the variances:

Do you remember the movie, "Wall Street" with Michael Douglas back in the 80's? Well, Romney was into the same line of work --buying up companies and then dismantling them, destroying jobs, and then selling them off. He doesn't have a lot of sympathy or empathy for the average working person, in my opinion.

In Romney's business, he utilized shell companies in two offshore tax havens to help eligible investors avoid paying U.S. taxes, according to federal and state records. Do we want a President who believes that people and corporations should avoid paying taxes? If you'd like to read more about this particular business practice of Romney's, here is a link:

So, those are some of the reasons that I don't trust Romney. Do I think that the other candidates are above reproach? No. There are no perfect candidates out there. But I'd trust Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton over Romney any day.

I tend to agree with Larry, but I think we will shafted less with a Democrat in office.
I need to publish my Mitt Romney article. Tomorrow it may be too late though.

Do I trust him? Yes. Do I want him to be President? No. His corporate raider aspect hasn't really been much of a secret -- anyone paying any attention at all would have suspected that he was a businessman of such a stripe. Romney is Madison Avenue slick and is completely out of touch with the concerns of the average American.

I agree with you, Carla. We can't have another "if it's good for business, it's good for everyone" president. Business is good but it must be regulated and controlled or otherwise unscrupulous people (apparently like Mitt Romney, thanks for the links on that) will being to live for the bottom line and disregard the human lives that are destroyed by their tactics. Corporations and holding companies have no human feelings, standards, or remorse. They must be controlled by laws.

No, but I trust both Clinton and Obama even less. Ron Paul and John McCain seem more trustworthy to me.

No I don't and I don't any of the others so I had to try and figure out which one was of the lesser evil. Obama is a flapping his jaws with promises he can not keep, Hillary will turn this country into a Socialist piece of poop, and I am not sure about the other side neither. Edwards quit so I don't need to cover him.

Dorine, read my articles about John McCain. He's not the man that people think, according to the famillies of the MIAs that have dealt with him over the years.

Wiaka, just because Hillary wants healthcare for everyone in this country doesn't mean that she will turn this into a socialist country. Is Canada a socialist country? We are moving now more toward a fascist state here in America. Which would you rather have? I did an article on that awhile back.

The election is for millionares, that puts them out of reach for most all of us. They think differently than the rest of us poor souls. Remember that campain promises are worth just what they seem, which is nothing.

Hawkowl, you sound very discouraged. I do understand how you would feel that way. But don't forget that we do have the power to make changes and to pressure our representatives into doing what WE want and not what the corporations want. But it takes effort and not many people are willing to take the time and make the calls.

I think Romney is a highly ethical man, not a good politician. The party establishment ganged up on him because he is not one of them and would not play by their rules if he were President. He is a CEO type and he knows that the government is a mess. I think Huckabee , who is the best campaigner , Republican or Democrat, has a better chance of stopping McCain than does Romney.

If Huckabee was elected President I would move to Canada. He wants to destroy the separation of church and state. I am pro-choice. I will fight for a woman's right to choose. I don't think the majority of people in this country will vote for someone like him who is ultra-conservative. McCain is more tolerable than Huckabee. But frankly, I'm counting on having a Democrat as President--either Hillary or Obama is preferable to any candidate the Republicans have to offer. It's time for change.

And, Clarke, I'm not sure that I would agree that Romney was such an "ethical" man. "By their fruit they shall be known" and "actions speak louder than words". If we look at Romney's record (did you read the article?) you'll see that he is a man of inconsistencies and his flip-flopping on issues doesn't show much strength of character. He can't even decide if he's withdrawing from the campaign or not--he calls it "suspending". What is that all about???

Great news. I knew none of this ... but I never needed it because I was not about to vote for one of "them" anyway. "They" are "all" of the same stripe.
