The time is drawing near and I'm sure everyone is gearing up. This past weekend, some of our member crew headed their way down to South America to board the Radiance of the Seas and prepare her for your arrivals on February 10, 2008. We always like to arrive early and make sure all of our plans are in place.
Back to our pre-adventures, as we leave port in Punta Arenas we will have 2 days at sea of the most breathtaking and unobstructed views in the Strait of Magellan and Chilean Fjords. The Strait has always been considered the safest passage as you round South America and through this passage you can almost sense how close we are to Antarctica. Though not a destination on this trip, many people that we will run into in our two previous cities, Ushuaia and Punta Arenas, will probably be heading that direction. The next two days will be a time to sit on deck and watch the scenery go by. There's a part of me that can't wait to take out my camera and take many pictures as we stroll along the untouched scenery.
Our next port is Puerto Montt. Nestled in the Lake Region of Chile, Puerto Montt has a long history of a pioneering spirit. Being situated at the southern part of Chile, the settlers in 1853 roughed through the climate to survive which brought the development of the railroad to this point to support the shipping industry. There are excursions to outside the city, for example Petrohue Waterfalls is 6 hours round trip. If you stay inside there are some nice places to walk and take in the scenery. Angelmo's is the fishing community and boasts a great sea food market with many good places to eat.
The ship will leave port a 5:00 pm. This will set sail on our final evening before we need to begin thinking about calling our trip to the end. The evening will be filled with food, fun and drinks as we celebrate a time of meeting new friends, spending time with old ones and experiencing a new adventure on the Splendour of the Sea. We will have one more day at sea and then to our final port of call, Valparaiso, Chile.
