Good Morning Gather or Audrey's Crazy Coffee Club

Monday morning has rolled around again and it is not a very nice one here.  We had 9 inches of new snow yesterday and this morning some freezing rain. However the temps are now above freezing and it is just slushy out.  Schools were called off throughout my area for the day due to the heavy snow.  This somewhat surprises me as it is an urban area.  As a child I lived in a small town(not much for snow removal equipment) and no one had blades on pickups then.  We didn't usually consider it a heavy snow unless there was at least 10 inches.  Schools were held for those who could get there, which meant us town kids.  Today school is cancelled for 3 inches of snow.  I suspect it is because of the school's liability and our law suit happy public.  It will be keeping me in today because I don't see the need to go out in it.  I was out shoveling last night after the snow stopped and even made a snow angel.  There are yellow spots on it this morning.  I think the critters were looking for a spot where they didn't sink into the snow.

Come on in and sit a spell. Lets have our morning coffee together.

Hi Gary, in the past week we have had 16 inches of snow, but given there are some areas that regularly get several feet at a time I'd better not complain. We are having rain today too. Thunder woke me this morning.

I love bananas, but one a day is enough and they ripen too quickly if I buy a bunch. I like mine with a slightly green tip.

We have had a real mild winter, I try not to venture out in the slush and snow. I will ride to work with the hubby. I am not originally from the north. In South Carolina we don't really know what snow is lol!

Hi Joanne, Bananas are good anytime. I like to dip them in vanilla yogutrt, in a sundae, sliced into vanilla pudding. Thats just for desserts.

One thing about our weather in Iowa this winter is that my car is always dirty. The roads are hardly ever dried out and that sand salt stuff is bad. We have to have it or no one could get around.

Good morning Sadie, I can't stay but thought I'd pop in and say hello. :) We got about 4-5 inches inches of snow, finally. We really need it. Been dry winter and summer the last two years. They used to cancel school here but not much anymore! This past week, with the gas line rupturing, one day they did cancel school. The next day it was so cold, my ignition in my car stuck and I couldn't get the kids to school so called in and told them. I felt like an idiot again today. I slept through the alarm or did not remember to set it. I even started using a different alarm this past summer thinking it was the old alarm clock. About twice a year, I end up sleeping through the alarm or maybe I shut it off in my sleep? Then I have to call in and I'm sooo embarrassed. How are you today? My back is hurting. Well the other day, one of my dogs got stuck under the couch. His foot somehow got caught under there in some material they must have been chewing holes in. So I had to lift and hold the couch up and then with one hand, snip the material away from his leg. He is fine. I have to wait a few days and hopefully then most of the pain will go away. Ever since the ritis brothers moved in it hasn't been fun. That is what I call arthritis. :) Ok, well need to go check a few other emails and maybe lay down. Just thought I'd check in and say hello and talk your head off. I don't expect you to reply because I might miss the reply anyways! :) I don't know if I'm making any sense. The medicine I take! We had a little block party last night. The snowplows haven't been making it so about 12 of us go shovel our neighborhood and the ones who can't make coco and snacks. It is great to get to know your neighbors like that.

Rotfl! I have alot of dust! No matter how much we dust it just keeps coming and I don't understand it. I don't know where it comes from with the windows closed. I must admit I am no longer a good house keeper. I don't have room to put alot of our things so it is cluttered here and well, we are allergic to dust. So when we do dust, we are all coughing, sneezing, getting clogged sinues. We take our nasal spray for that. Didn't find any dust bunnies though. :) Seems the longer one lives the more stuff gets collected. And the kids don't like their things thrown out either. They have stuff from when they were 3 yrs old.

I know just what you mean Liz. I have dust allergies but also am more of a surface cleaner than the deep down kind if you know what I mean. I know a lot of the dust gets cicrulated by the heating system.

The city trucks just went past. The good news is we piled the snow between the street and sidewalk high inough that they didn't fill up the 50 feet walk like they usually do. The bad news is they d roll up some huge chunks of slush and ice in the drive. Oh well, I'm not going anywhere so someone else can plow through them.

One of my aunts says Jelly bread house for going to the bathroom. She always was very social and when she went to the bathroom, we women all had to go along. We'd be sitting on the side of the tub, the floor, the sink visiting and talking about things the guys couldn't hear, lol! Then she had porch setting too. We had to move to the porch outside and visit. She is so fun.

And she didn't mind you all following her to the bathroom? That was one rule my kids all learned early on. If the bathroom door is closed you knock and if someone is in there you don't go in. It usually worked.

We lived in an old farm house and no locks on instide doors, at least not that there were keys too. They had the old fashioned locks that took a big old key and those keys were long gone when we moved in.

I remember skeleton keys! Wringer washing machines, those cabbage shredders. My gramma used to be doing laundry on the scrub board which to me at age 4 looked just like the cabbage shredder and I thought how does she do that without shredding the clothes. The outhouse, the windmill, windcharger, kerosine lamps, treddle sewing machines, all kinds of fun memories.

Liz, you have many of the same momories that I do. It is amazing how many thing I remember clearly about WW II even though I was under 5 yrs of age. We have had a lot of changes in our lifetimes.
