Today was so beautiful out so we decided to go to Broadway at the Beach here in Myrtle Beach, SC. We've been here a few times before we moved down to Myrtle Beach, when we were vacationing. It was always so hot and we really just took a quick walk through, not really appreciating what a nice place this is. So many of our friends back home in Pennsylvania say they like the boardwalks at the shore points in New Jersey and don't think a beach is complete without one. Well, we just love Broadway at the Beach. It's not your typical "boardwalk" but the uniqueness makes it special and a wonderful place to go to shop. It's like an outdoor mall on the water. The aquarium is there, a lot of nice shops where you can find just about anything you're looking for, an I-Max theater, ice cream shops, a lot of places to eat, and many fountains throughout the beautiful landscaped area. There is a huge miniature golf place complete with a fire spouting tower also that the kids just love and a nice playground too.
When we started out, before lunch, it was a nice 68 degrees. I wore a sweatshirt and a jacket since the shade was a little cool. By the time we drove there, parked the car and started walking, the jacket came off. The sun was bright and very warm. I took a few pictures I thought I would share so you could get an idea of what a boardwalk in Myrtle Beach is. We just enjoy going there to look around, shop a little and enjoy the outdoors.

There are all kinds of birds, I have no idea what this one is.

I think this is called a Puffer? If not, then I am clueless. But they are so cute.

Seagulls.

And, let's not forget the ducks. They are swimming around so it's actually hard to get a photo with the duck centered, but this little guy was really pretty and I had to have one photo of him.

I really enjoyed watching all these birds sunning themselves on the rocks. Especially these with their wings opened.

What a nice view of the detailed in the wings.

This bird is rather neat looking, sunning him/herself.

This one has an admirer besides me.

I think they are beautiful.
The people who run this place go out of their way to make everything interesting, even the poles in the water.

As you walk along the boardwalk bridges through Broadway at the Beach there are a lot of water fowl and catfish waiting for a handout. For 25 cents you get a handful of pellets to through in the water for them. We wanted to feed the catfish, as you can see, they are ready and waiting. The ducks and birds are way too fast though. They beat the fish to the pellets every time. I would through a handful out beyond where the birds were to lure them away from the fish and then try to throw some to the fish. Whoosh, that fast the birds were on top of the fish getting all the food. I don't think the fish can actually see very well either out of the water. The experience made for some great photos though.

Now, this is up close and personal!

"You gonna feed me or what lady?"

So friends, you can go to the Mall, you can go to the shore point boardwalks, or you can enjoy nature and the Mall atmosphere at Boardwalk on the Beach. Just look at these beautiful surroundings! I'm getting the best of all options I think.

Lots of water with ducks, birds and fish.

Fountains

Stingray sculpture. There is shooting water under the stingrays.

This Stingray Sculpture is outside the Aquarium.
Here are some scenic views to give you an idea of how this is laid out.

We were getting tired and the sun was really warm at this point, so we decided to head back to the car, about 20 minutes walk or so away. This place is really big. I know, I said I took a few photos, and trust me, for us this is a few. I hope you enjoyed the tour and if you ever get to Myrtle Beach, be sure to check this place out. I am so fortunate, it's only about a twenty minute ride away.

Nice photos and essay. I've been to here and Barefoot Landing a bunch of times.
You know there are several caches at Broadway at the Beach. Gotta get you a GPS Nana ;)
The bird shots are awesome! I love how in the ones with the wings spread it looks as if they are just standing and posing for you. You're right! The detail is amazing! And I could sit and listen to and watch seagulls all day long!
Again, Nana, you've outdone yourself and done a most excellent job!
Ahem! I'm still waiting on my invitiation to come visit! ha ha
