Imagine a frail, weakened mind, body or spirit, wandering around aimlessly for lack of motivation. Boredom, perhaps. Monotony, most likely. Cure: the desire to create something, anything, make it from scratch. Result: acting on that desire and offering a brilliant piece of architecture that is pleasing to think about owning, touring, maybe even decorating.
Think of the architecture that feels luxurious because it exudes the perfect exterior and interior layout making the owner, renter, tourist, observer, comfortable. It is the kind of structure that appeals to the senses.
The design that could evoke balance like Feng Shui tends to do for those in touch with dimensional tranquility and surroundings conducive to relaxation and harmony. The encouragement to give to someone who feels 'less than they can be', can be the most rewarding gift anyone could give. Say "here would you build a fountain in my yard?" or "hey would you build a bridge so me and my family could get from the road over the river to our house?" or "hey dear wife or husband would you lend me some of your energy to help build the playhouse for the kids?"
The therapy, brought about by building something out of nothing, is esteeming, brimming with potential to grow from whatever was holding you back. The person suffering from seasonal changes affecting their mood could be inspired to create entire cities, if given the material to do so. Paper mache, paint, toothpicks, craft wire and thread could awaken a whole new criteria of their personality waiting to be explored into.
Imagine the possibilities when things from scratch start taking form. When the drywall adheres to the wallpaper. When the polyurethane coats the new floor and makes it
brilliantly shiny; or when the steel girders begin to create the framework in which the glass panels will be placed just right to capture the early morning sun during the first business meeting in this large office building.
Whatever a person builds can be made of bricks, mortar, glass, steel, hope, courage, ambition and faith; the latter four offering the more intangible materials we gather to make something out of nothing. To build is to be well enough to stand up and give something of yourself whether it be the labor or the facilitation of. It is therapeutic in the feeling of accomplishment when the project stands out from the rest and is admired by many.
Architecture, the creation of something that will replace boredom definitely veer away from monotony and offer that frail, once-weakened mind, body or spirit an avenue of excitement ! If that is not therapy for the one who feels blah (I hate the word depressed--like we are always impressed and the world is forever gentle) then I will try harder to find something more appealing.
For the moment, enjoy the structures around you for they house incredible spirit from an imaginative mind that serves the body well in the power of suggestion.
