With little refrigeration and no preservatives, people go to the mercado almost daily.
When you ask for an avacado they will ask if it is for today or tomorrow. Then they hand you one that is perfectly ripe.
Around the outside of the main building are stands that sell fresh produce.

Fresh oranges, apples, potatoes, cucumbers, sweet potatoes, and so much more.

This stand has grapes, pineapples, bananas, and some little green squash..

And this one has cabbage, radishes, watermelons, tomatoes, onions, carrots, broccoli, jicama, canteloupe, and chiles.
On the inside are more foods for sale.

This cheese is about a foot tall and smelled a little like dirty feet.

The chicken is fresh. They were running around the farm the night before. Get your chicken early. There's no refrigeration!

And if you want to make a big pot of pozole, this is the place to buy a whole pig's head. Yum! Or some freshly made chorizo, maybe?
Now you're probably gettin' hungry! Just cross the street and on the edge of the plaza you can get something to eat.

Either some snacks and a soda...

Or take your pick of a dozen taquerias. Anything from chicken or beef to goat or cow tongue. Whichever you choose you'll be sure of having some great tacos.
Besides food you can pick up some of your other needs.

Buckets or tubs...

yarn for embroidering...

or a flower arrangement from one of the nearby florerias.
These are just a few of the sights from the mercado in Pétatlan, Guerrero, Mexico.
Hasta Pronto, amigos...
