Week 3 challenge:
This week's Toronto Star Earth Hour Challenge is to eat less meat - to follow a vegan diet one day a week. Vegan = no meat, poultry, fish or dairy.
Meat production is responsible for nearly 20% of the world's greenhouse gas emissions, according to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization.
All vehicle emissions only account for about 13.5%. Who knew?
Not I - I would have guessed cars would be responsible for a much higher amount of emissions than food production.
Not so sure hubby will be thrilled about this weekly challenge - I'm a lot fonder of pasta than he is - but we'll give it a go anyway.
Other Earth Hour news:
Cities and towns all across Ontario are joining the Earth Hour Challenge. What's happening in your area? Have you heard any media coverage about it yet?
Dalton McGuinty, the Premier of Ontario, announced his government's support for the initiative ....which, while very cool, makes me even less impressed with the Green Party's response to my email about it. I went and checked their website again and still no mention of Earth Hour anywhere to be seen. Might have to rethink my vote next time.

I am not so certain I can get my husband to go a week without meat. No. I know I can't. Geronimo is a meat man. But I am a pasta eater and could do it. So in this house we'll get 1/2 compliance.
I don't think Ross & I would consider it if it were more than 1 day/week!
Tax the sale of meat!
