The Universal Consciousness
Created all
Sound and Light
Call it God or Goddess
S/he is "two spirits"
and One

Woman creates within
Man creates without
Women build new life
Men build the shelter
Both are necessary

Some of us are doubly blessed
To be in rich contact
With both our masculine and feminine spirit
We are blessed to create
Both within and without
"Two Spirits" the Native Americans call us

We all are "Two Spirits"
Life, teaching, outer influences
May lead us to express
One or the other
But both are present
In some amount
In all of us

I appreciate how your poem expresses such a complex and important issue in beautiful verse. The spiritual (and medical) question of our dual natures as human beings is only now becoming appreciated. The sages were right: we are both masculine and feminine. Coming to understand our multidimensional selves is a path to serenity, but even more than that, learning to live in a tolerant and loving community with all of our gender diversities is how we translate that understanding into justice.
