Official state foods
New York State has several "official" state foods. These are voted on/approved by the state's lawmakers in Albany.
State fruit: apple
State beverage: milk
State muffin: apple muffin
State fish: speckled trout
State shell: bay scallops
State tree: sugar maple
New York also has several popular foods associated with the state. Some of the most famous are:

- Classic Black & White Cookie ( NYC)

Philadelphia may be known for their hot pretzels but I didn't go there until I was 25 and I had my first hot pretzels on the streets of Manhattan when I was a child. With mustard, of course.
John's Pizza on Bleeker Street, there are so many foods that are purely NYC!
Also, the thin chocolate wafers that are only sold in cold months - they are thin and come in small boxes? I forget the name of the company or the product. I've only seen them in the NY area for years.
