| The Gather Help Forum for 01 Feb, 2008 |
As the Gather Guide team is currently in transition. The AidStation articles are on hold. I will be posting the Help Forum article everyday until the new team of guides are ready to start.
To find out more about the transition please click here.
I have received many questions/concerns/issues relating to the recent Gather updates. So Far I have let support know about the following:
1. The "Related Articles" and "More By" features are creating problems for many members. I have also asked whether it would be possible for members to opt out of it if preferred.
2. A lot of us are having problems with publishing, commenting, uploading pictures & videos and formatting our articles.
3. Gather keeps logging some members out after a few minutes at a time.
4. The "most discussed" tab for the articles is showing articles posted a long time ago, going back as early as 2005. This is perhaps a side effect of the new tagging system that works out the related links.
Once I hear from Support about the above, I will post a comment and let you know.
In the meantime, you can also voice your opinion by commenting on the article below
Gather Wants to Know: What are your thoughts on the new Related Articles feature? by Jim Bostic
You can also join the group Building a Better Gather and post your ideas/opinions/concerns there. Team Gather checks this group on a regular basis and takes member feedback on board.
Some members have asked about the Tax Form:
I have asked Gather about this. The 1099 forms were posted out to members on 25 January 2007 and should be received by the end of the week or early next week. Only members who earned more than $600 from Gather in 2007 will receive the form.
If you are interested in getting an update about the new Gather Guide Team, here's a link to MaryAnne Flynn's article posted today:

I hope the above information will help with some of the questions I have been receiving recently. If you have any other questions or need help with something else or would like to talk about the topics discussed in this article, please leave a comment below. or any other Gather members will try to provide you with an answer!

I have provided some interesting links above. Jim Bostic's article provides us with a platform to voice our opinions and concerns about the recent upgrade. We can also join the group Building a Better Gather (link provided in the article) and post articles to the group with our suggestions and opinions.
I hope all of you have a great day and hope to bump into your around Gather. :)
good morning, luna! have a joyous day!
I don't have anything at the moment I need help with.
Good morning Renee!
Two new front end servers were deployed Wednesday afternoon to help address the overall site instability that was causing some members to be promoted to log in repeatedly. Additional Q/A work was completed yesterday afternoon and our site engineers are confident that this issue should now be resolved.
If you are continuing to have problems with being frequently logged off Gather, please leave a comment on this article and I will pass the information onto Gather.
Prior to this site update the article editor would recognize font style attributes when content was pasted from Word or Wordpad. But, currently the article editor no longer recognizes these attributes in either Firefox or IE. Some members have reported that font color attributes are not being recognized either.
Our developers are aware of these issues and they have confirmed that the article editor on the Publish an article page, will not allow you to copy/paste from a word processing program like MSWord and still retain your Font Name, Family, and Size settings. However, you should still be able to keep your Color, Underline, Bold, Italic settings.
Our Q/A engineers believe these problems may be caused by the code changes that were implemented to address the publishing issues we were experiencing previously (article text running together when content was copy/pasted from MSWord). A fix has not been identified, as our engineers are still looking into these publishing issues. But, I will provide additional updates as I receive them.
In the interim, members can work around these article formatting issues by manually applying the style changes they want from within the HTML editor screen of the publish article page.
The "Most Viewed" for the day does not appear to reflect correct data, and the "Updated Profiles" pages do not progress properly (members from page 1 reappear on subsequent pages). Our site engineers are aware of both of these issues and they are currently working on a fix that is slated for deployment by late February.
Think your town is the ultimate BON JOVI destination on the LOST HIGHWAY Tour? by Bon Jovi
This is a featured article today on the Gather Guides™ Group
I wish gather would create an opt out feature for this.
Even Youtube has this tool so why hasn't Gather implemented it so people can see how many people come to check out their contributions.
Are they afraid that if this information were told people would stop contributing?
It's like having an election and not ever being told how many people voted for you!
We need a real tracking for our own personal information!
Speak out on this issue!

My only problem has nothing to do with latest upgrade. It was a problem, then fixed, now a problem again. My Holidaze group has no featured or regular articles on the front page. Clicking a tab will show them, but they're not on front page. Not a serious problem - like getting logged off. I don' t have any of those. :=)
Like I have mentioned in my email to you, I will keep collecting information on the problems everyone is having and send them through to support.
Jimmie! Thanks so much for the wonderful comment! It really does make day. Yes I have been a Guide before and have accepted one of the team leader roles for the new team, so you will be see me around a lot! :)
In the meantime I will let Gather know about your suggestion as well.
I don't envy you dear.
I still don't like the RA's though...I really think links like the one ceena had the other day are both unfortunate and embarrasing...poor kid, she writes a nice article and it's linked to one on farts...go figure.....gotta go now, time to find my hip boots and slog through the molasses again.
see ya' later.....If you need me.....you know where I live! ;-)
Hi Susan I am glad you found me! :) and I am on the same boat about the Related Links as well, we should at least have an option to be able to turn these off. Support is aware of this though and are working to find an amiable solution.
