If inside me were a city
With buildings made of words
Then love would be the lava
That buries them unheard
I know you want an answer
When you ask me how I feel
Whether what we have together
Is a dream or if it's real
It must be hard to understand
For one who speaks his heart
How when I look at you
I don't know where to start
Every time I try to say
The way I feel for you
The lava rises up in me
And I don't know what to do
If inside me were a city
With buildings made of words
Then love would be the lava
That buries them unheard
I wake up in the morning
Just to watch you lying there
I spell out with my fingers
Just how much I care
But when you open up your eyes
Words scatter like a dream
And everything I meant to say
Isn't as it seems
One day I know you'll leave me
Because you cannot see
The smoke up on the mountain
Overtaking me
If inside me were a city
With buildings made of words
Then love would be the lava
That buries them unheard
I wish that I could find the words
That you want to hear
The silence that I offer you
Isn't out of fear
I wish that you could come inside
The city where I live
And see my love is bigger than
The words I have to give
No matter what you cannot hear
Or what you cannot see
My love will always burn inside
The city inside me

Thank you for sharing!
Great song.
I like the flow of this poem, easy to read and understand.
Thank you for sharing this with me.
mirroring that inner burn, only lovers know
We are struck dumb now and then
by objects of affection
But that's why the poet picked up the pen
and wrote love with protracted perfection
You've found your words in this poem; if there's someone this poem is specifically about show him it.
I can certainly relate...I recently told a friend that, in the face of a lover gushing with emotion, a detachment overtakes me, one I blame on too many years of law training; I live in my rational, analyzing, perfecting, word-filled brain, rather than in my compassionate, loving heart.
I would appreciate your opinion of a two-word challenge poem I posted for the Valentines Day Challenge:
Goodbye Love
