 | If you're a Gather Group owner and you provide links to your group content, promote your group at the same time by using a link which displays the content on your groupspace page. For example: This link displays a recent article as it would 'normally' appear. and This link displays the same article, but on the groupspace page for that content. You can also modify the link to make the content appear to be published to any Gather Group. Providing this type of link can enhance your content and garner more attention for your group at the same time. This technique can be used for all content types on Gather. How is this done? Creating this link is quite easy. Visit the group that contains the content you wish to link to, and locate the content in the group. Then, copy the link for that content as you normally would....but do NOT use Gather's permalink option. That's It! | |
| | "I love creating photo essays, but all of my images appear on the left hand side of my articles. Is there an easy way to change this?" Yes, there is! - Click and drag the images into your article, using either the small or large size.
- Images are automatically left justified. To change an image to right justified, right-click on the image and choose 'Image Properties' from the mouse menu. You can only choose between right and left justification for images.
Text will flow around both images allowing you to create an impressive photo essay. | |

I agree...and I believe that they are working on adding this capability. Check back tomorrow as the 'tip' for Friday will be a technique to allow you to do this yourself...sort of. :-)
Great SiteWizard - looks awesome Kevin!
I was hoping to have this series launched several weeks ago...but better late than never!
A new article will be published each morning, seven days a week.
Why has your Icon been sitting on my homespace in "My People"for the last day? All other Icons move off, but yours just sits there.
Some other Gatherers and I have checked it out, and one of them suggested I ask you.
Plus, over the past few days Gather has signed me off regularly whether I want to be signed out or not....but that should be fixed by Gather soon. Hopefully.
name of Gatherer
and I don't get the blue clickable link, only that whole code when I publish. Do you know what I'm doing wrong?
The coding for comments and mail messages is different than for articles. That may be why it isn't working. Do you know how to create a link in an article?
I have outlined below the method to use when creating links to other articles, images or Gather Groups. This will also allow you to create links to other websites outside of Gather.
Please note that this only applies to the creation of links within articles. Creating links from comments or mail messages requires a different technique.
You have now made a link!
Whatever you did fixed the problem. I need to add this one to my notebook. Oftentimes my friends and I -- as we were taught in class -- log problems and ways to resolve for the next time. I am going to share this one, if you don't mind. Although I did not continue on in the computer industry, they did; maybe I can pass one along to them that EVEN THEY have not come across, just as we learned to do in class.
Thank you, again!
Now I have one place to ask MY questions! :-)
To break this in, here's one for you ---
When I publish an image, I like adding a Title and then a comment separately below it, to explain or add information about the photo. However, Gather is not allowing me to add separate paragraphs to the Caption field.
Everything I type in becomes ONE paragraph.
Hitting the Enter key a few times does not add spaces or paragraphs.
Adding HTML code for breaks does not work.
Is there a way to edit the layout of that area?
I have experienced and documented new formatting problems in the article editor relating to centering, font style and size (since the latest update). Based upon these recent changes, it seems logical (yet unfortunate) that captions would also be affected.
However, like with member profiles, there ARE ways to insert blank lines and line feeds, but it takes a specific combination of browser/editor to accomplish it...and I don't know what that combination is yet. I'm working on it though, and will get back to you as soon as I figure it out!
You only need to make $50.00 in your FIRST calendar month...so that you can qualify for the cash option. Once you have been accepted into the cash points program, Gather will not revert you back to gift cards if you do not meet a certain quota each subsequent month. You can request to go back to gift cards, if you want, but no matter how little you make Gather won't remove you from the cash points program.
I hope that puts your mind at ease!
Here's your answer: use <p> paragraph alignment 'tags'.
You may use the following in image captions:
<p>
<p align=center>
<p align=right>
Substitute these for the break <br> tags.
That should work for you. If you have any questions, you know where to find me!
I want to know how to make a pretty comment like the one you use - with the banner on top and the formatting and all. I need to make one of those for Soundtracking!
!!!
Thanks, Kevin!
You're always the most helpful soul on Gather! You sure know the answers or where to find them! You deserve the SiteWizard title, Kevin :-)
I think it'll work. :-)
Thanks. You can direct anyone to the group sitewizard.gather.com
Also, as you know I am adding links to you as well and all future guide resources. I should have that all worked out tomorrow as I am still experimenting with the format for external links. :-)
I don't work for Gather so I wouldn't have access to this type of information. I maintain highly confidential data for my clients, which can cover everything from patent data and emerging technologies to financial records.
thanks
