Any White cat owners out there?

A bit of genetic trivia about all-white cats: Most of them with blue eyes are deaf, however odd-eyed cats (one blue and one green or yellow) either have full hearing, or are deaf only in the ear closest to the blue eye. White cats are also very susceptible to squamous cell carcinomas of the nose and ears, and they should be protected from prolonged exposure direct sunlight.

My MIL has a white cat who isn't deaf but has a lot of allergy problems. :)

I don't have a white cat now, but my parents had a white cat named Bunny who had her hearing.

Here is another piece of trivia: Calico cats are always female. It sounds like an old wives tale, but there is a genetic reason. Color only passes through the X chromosome, so to have a three colored cat, you need two X chromosomes and therefore a female.

I did kno that Marianne, since my first cat was a tortise shell calico...she was beautiful! Smart too! She would "talk" to me and we played hide and seek!

My white cat has two different colored eyes (blue and yellow) and selective hearing. When I'm yelling trying to find her she won't acknowledge that she hears me. But she can hear a can of treats being opened from anywhere in the house!

Didn't know that. But I don't tell her what to do. Cats seem to have a mind all their own. She goes outside when it's warm all the time.

I have two white cats neither one is deaf. Oscar had blue eyes till recently they changed.

I had an all white angora, but eyes were green/gold and he saw and heard.
I heard what you said is true. Except with some breeds. My Lilac Siamese had blue eyes and could hear and see.

My very first kitty when I was in 4th grade was white and had a blue and yellow eye. Cotton could here me, because she always ran away from me! LOL She was the beginning of my love of kitties. But I only in the last 4 months found out about the deaf thing that was connected to the eyes. It's interesting for sure. Thanks

We had an odd-eyed white cat named Baka years ago. Currently we have a bicolor and a gray tabby. The bi-color is kind of neat. He has a black mask over his eyes and ears, a black spot on his nose, and a black tail with a white stripe around it. The rest of him is white.
