Well, the Senate just had to improve the House bill by tacking on $11 Billion more. You get less and future generations will pay that back PLUS interest PLUS the cost of the war . . . because, after all . . . . NO NEW TAXES! Wooo Hooo! How? Cut the checks but let more wealthy people get them too. Cool if you make $150,000 (individually) a year . . . that $500 will really help those struggling people, eh?

Well, they have to do something in those hallowed halls. No time to seek justice when even GOP Presidential Candidate, Dr. Ron Paul admits the military action is Unconstitutional. They need to pay off the public and pad business so we won't notice. "The Finance Committee bill, approved on a vote of 14-7, would provide a flat $500 tax rebate to individuals and $1,000 for couples, plus $300 per child. The rebates also would go to about 20 million low-income retirees on Social Security who would not receive checks under the $146 billion House stimulus bill."
So is this supposed to help? We PILE the debt onto future generations . . . enjoy a few hundred . . . and once again get told to "Go Shopping"? Does spending BILLIONS of dollars more without getting the income show us that George "What the Hell is a Budget?" Bush has even an incredibly remote IDEA of what he was calling for in his State of the Union address? Once the GOP is gone . . . they WILL scream about taxes . . . they WILL scold about a balanced budget . . . . they WILL wail like whipped kittens that every problem is because they're no longer in power. The sneering, cowardly, deserter of a Commander has no business anywhere NEAR our National budget . . . and has proved it time and again.
...And Congress better quit being blackmailed by illegal evesdropping and get their fricken' jobs done!

Maybe I should spend it on my kids since they are the ones that will pay for it in the end.
I refer you to Chive's article.
Yeah, right John. Brilliant thinking. That's a MUCH better idea than being responsible to begin with ( *rolls eyes* )!
Andrea, Ron & Joseph . . . you clearly 'get it'!
Lainie . . . normally I'd turn you over my knee for advertising another article in my comment string . . . but it's just not an option when you reference the sadonic, satirical genius of the Chive (TM) . . . and so appropriate too! For those interested, the article is: ONE CLICK AWAY !
. . . And, Sheryl, you're right. People who save are being punished (I refer you to YET ANOTHER interest rate cut) . . . people who borrow and spend are being rewarded . . . and the WHOLE thing is a sideshow to what needs done. The House started this thing . . . the Senate extended and exacerbated it . . . everyone WANTS more money (duhhhh) . . . and the issues are being ignored. What a crock!

And still . . . the sheeple continue to bleat for that ONE issue they hope will be handled . . . whether it's the merging of Church and State or the End of Abortion . . . whatever . . . people seem unable to understand that there is a whole range of issues to be considered together . . . not just ONE . . . and they vote without thinking of the welfare of the country. I think a candidate that said he was against abortion (for example) but for starting World Wars III and IV would STILL get votes. It's sad . . . pathetic . . . and UnAmerican. And it's starting to make intelligent Americans VERY embarassed about the stupidity in this country.\

Just this morning an well-spoken man called in and said that he could be behind both Romney or McCain since both were "pro-life" and would put judges on the SC that would cast down Rove vs. Wade. He said that this was the ONLY issue that he cared about and should be first and foremost on everyone's mind going to the poles in NOv.

Rove v. Wade
Freudian slip??? LMAO ! ! !

I share your frustration. And anger.
I just wrote a long comment which disappeared, but you and Sheryl and others have been able to step back from the daily squabbles and see that this country is in deep doodoo. Unfortunately, there are not so many people who are willing or able to do this and we find ourselves suffocating each day in the smoke of deception and Rove-style propaganda.
This "tax rebate" is pandering of the highest order. If Citicorp and Merrill Lynch profit from gigantic rate cuts after greedy loans go bad maybe we should be saying WTF instead of licking our lips at how we will spend our pitiful bribe.
What would happen?
I'm just curious.

I hope he gets crotch rot and remains impotent for the rest of his years. Geez.

I once held a check someone gave me for nine months just because they made me mad. The money didn't affect me one way or another to hold it, so I marked my calendar for the date in which it would expire and the day before I finally cashed it.
I know it probably didn't make a hill of beans in the long run, but the accounting shmuck that made the mistake had to wait that long for the check to clear! :)
Oh wow. I thought the same thing . . . I think HE thinks it's in the bag . . . and he's probably right about the GOP nod. But the sneer does make ya' think . . .
On the other hand, Dr. Ron Paul seemed like he was making some sense . . . that's like a final nail in the coffin for the GOP. I said long ago he's too reasonable to get a GOP nod.

Surely those children that have already made their appearance should have some consideration. I've been a firm believer that you shouldn't have children unless you are capable and responsible enough to ensure they are cared for. Shouldn't that same apply to the government?
If the government wants to force people to have children they don't want, then it should be responsible to ensure that the children will be taken care of properly.
Because THAT costs money . . . it doesn't MAKE money for the healthcare industry like forcing women to carry to term does. It's all about money. Once born . . . it's the pull yourself up by your bootstrap mentality . . . the only excuse accepted for people failing is that they're lazy or severly handicapped . . .
Incidentally . . . tossing these kids into unwanted homes and cutting services DOES lead to increased chances of crime . . . and these same "Pro-Lifers" would be the first in line to pull the switch and execute the same child they forced into the world. The first to support wars too . . .
It's a strange lot, isn't it Stephanie?

Stephanie.....tut, tut, tut. Don't you realize that it's not CHILDREN who are a priority? It's the group of cells that is the fetus that keeps women in their places that is the priority. As long as you can take the right away from women to do what they want with their bodies, then you've basically subjugated them to your wishes. It has nothing whatsoever to do with saving children, or caring about children after they pop out of that womb. It is then you can actually start ignoring them and calling the woman a whore and the child a sinful bastard.
Damn, I'm depressed.
