To me, it looks like your either taking down pink wallpaper which is over top of a brick wall, or that the wallpaper is starting to peel of its own accord...but then, what the heck do I know? 'Tis a mystery!! ;-D

I've got to agree with the idea that it's the corner of a wall, with protective strip running up the corner. possibly a planter or bench on each side of corner.

You can tell it is not a cornered wall by looking at the brick. We are looking straight on at a wall with something leaned against it. There are no steps or anything else in the picture except for the brick, and the underside of the object leaned against it.

I had to go back to this object and take a picture from farther away. It is a rather unusual light on the side of a building a few blocks from me.
