I don't know about you, but I have fond memories of new snowfall. Most of the time during the actual storm, as a child, we are not allowed access to the outdoors. But once the blizzard is over, the temperature rises, all one can think of is donning jackets, hats and snow mittens and running joyfully outdoors. Would that if every snowfall, one would have a snowday...a day at home to just go out and play in the snow. As adults, many forget this "feeling of the young" and instead the children are bundled up and sent off to school. As a teacher of young children, I well understand what goes through little minds....knowing very little would be accomplished this day in terms of real academics, in the afternoon, we ran through a few snowy books, talked about Groundhog's Day and why animals hibernate at circle time and did our math and then we ran outside. Unlike the morning class, the afternoon kindergarteners were intent on building a snowman....which turned into a snow family. Come join the fun.
"Hey, let's build a snowman?"
"I never build one before. How do you do it?"
"The snow feels just about right to me!"
"It taste just about right too!"
"All you have to do is roll some balls! It's easy!
"I don't know about that. Sounds kind of hard to me."
"No, really, it's easy."
'Look at our big one!'
"Hey, give us some help! We have an enormous one!"
PUSH, PUSH, PUSH!
"Keep pushin' guys!"
"How come we all fell over? Let start again!
"What about a baby? Our family needs a baby!"
"This guy is the sailor guy."
MORAL OF THE STORY: A snow day can be fun even if you have to go to school!

These pictures were taken in the afternoon session of kindergarden. Tomorrow, hopefully I will publish the morning session's experience in the snow. Unlike the afternoon session, the morning people had different ideas about what to do on a snowy day!

Those kids without mittens or gloves make my hands cold just to look at them!

As for your grandbabies...I would have loved to have them in my class. Could they not commute from Spokane to Massachusetts?
They are going to remember kindergarten for a long time for sure
