Need some sewing help!

The bobbin issue has to do with tension, though I'm not entirely sure how to fix it on your specific machine. If your machine came with a little piece of felt (red or otherwise), you should put that under your spool of thread when you're using the bobbin winder. (Alternately, I found a BOX of prewound bobbins at JoAnn's for relatively cheaply... if you only need a single color of bobbin thread, it's worth looking into! :) )

Oh, and as for the straps, I think you're probably doing them the easiest possible way. But if you don't mind buying different supplies, look into quilt binding / binding tape... a lot of it is pre-pressed, though it may be a bit too narrow for what you're making.

On the machine there is a place to put the thread through before you wind onto the bobbin. If you don't and go straight to the bobbin it will look sloppy.

I just stopped by to say hello and heres 10.I can be of no help.

Decide the width of the finished handles and allowenough for seam allowances. fold with right sides together and sew your seam. Press open the seam and turn rightside out. Fold with the seam in the middle and press. There are no stitches showing on the top side, much easier than the way you are doing it.

My handle is only 1 inch wide when finished and I found it so hard to turn right side out after sewing it together.

Bobbin problem--it is the bobbin-winding tension. check your manual for proper thread path from the spool to the bobbin. It should have to go around a post or a flat button on the top of the machine if it is a fairly simple model. Every machine is different. If you don't have the manual, call your nearest dealer and simply ask questions. If you want to ping me or email me with more info about your machine I might be able to give you better info. I teach what is known in some circles as Home Ec (it has a different title these days) and have sewn for around 40 years.

If your fabric is not too heavy, the easiest way for those handles is to cut your fabric 4" wide. Take it to the ironing board, fold the handle fabric in half and press a crease. Open it up again and fold each edge into the center; press. then fold it back in half again--you will have 4 thicknesses and no raw edges to fight with. Top stitch both edges.
