Is it just me or are some of these speech makers a bit over the top in their wild histrionics of sing-song yelling while speech making. When I saw footage of Kennedy at an Obama rally I was instantly in horror. He looked like a bad acting Mad Magazine parody of dramatic political speech making.
The whole election is going down the toilet of overly thespian self parody (the MANY "thoughtful pauses" between loud warbling ejaculations especially get me). No it wasn't that overwhelmingly profound and DEEP so just finish the dang sentence !!!

I have no idea what was said, other than a few bumper sticker type catch words over and over. But there were a lot of grand poses punctuated with arms flailing about with much physical operatic grandeur. For sure.
If an over-the-top Warner Brothers Cartoon version of old southern style tent revival is "the future" then I'm hiding under my pillow.

Maybe the young would be happier if we just put our candidates on trampolines and blasted Wagner !!!
Ted's no John Kennedy (who COULD make a speech) . . . and that's the comparison we hear most about Obama (who CAN make a speech). ...and you're right . . . there's a lot of pseudo-statesmanship and phony emphasis in these speeches. Since the Kennedy / Nixon debates it's all about presentation . . . substance be damned. If you're old enough to recall those debates . . . people listening thought Nixon clearly won . . . but since he failed to wear make-up while Kennedy did not . . . the sweating and visual imagery made viewers feel Kennedy was the clear winner.
