She will cut glass tonight.
She will wait until the dogs are walked and fed
and I settle in to cringe, thank god,
at the president's last
State-of-the-Union.
She is extra kind tonight,
knowing how he gets under my skin
stirring hot blood beneath.
She is remembering the hidden smoke detector
buried deep inside the closet the night before,
incessantly beeping, distracting and spoiling my mood
and nearly char-coaling blackened salmon.
She will be with me while I cook, she says,
to talk about the day and our rising hope
for the future, sitting on a stool across from me,
while I chop peppers and onions.
But I know her heart is
pulling her to
patterns in sand and color.
She will cut glass tonight
and we will walk upon it.

Lady Raven Spirit, Thank you so much for visiting and inviting me to your winter home. It is always a welcome event to see you and your comments.
I detect
Tears from
Cut onions.
Seriously, I like the poem. Is she really a glass cutter?
I know next to nothing about glass cutting.
Politics and art
Split the couple apart
Excellent poem.

Jan - My wife has many talents. Among them is her enormous skill as a mosaic artist. This poem is as much about her ability to turn broken glass into beauty (both, literally and figuratively), as anything. She does this on a daily basis. She and I see eye to eye politically, though I suspect she grows weary of politics much sooner than I do. Thanks for all your kind comments.
i understand the ever changing particles comprising the total painting..like pointilism.
all is acceptable and accepted as long as the picture in the painting bears a resemblance to the original or the rendering is agreeable to both.
i found your poem to be brutally honest
Mystery in plain sight, what a good poem always does.
Your writing is beautiful, especially the way you make us wait until the end to understand your first line.
The phrase "cutting glass" in regards to a relationship is very harsh and edgy. If you want to soften this (and I don't know if you do), I'm sure you could make it clear that the cut glass is for art, not a weapon.
