INGREDIENTS:
4 cups peeled and sliced Granny Smith apples (or any good baking apple)
1/4-cup orange juice
1 cup sugar
3/4 cup all-purpose flour, sifted
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
Pinch salt
1/3-cup butter, cut up
1/2 cup chopped walnuts (per Shannon W.'s suggestion)
DIRECTIONS:
Butter 9-inch glass pie plate or casserole. Arrange apples, mounding in center. Pour orange juice over apples. In bowl, combine sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Cut in butter with pastry blender (or use your fingers like I do) until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs; sprinkle over the apples. Top with chopped walnuts. Bake at 375 degrees for 45-55 minutes until top is browned and apples are tender. Serve with a scoop of vanilla or cinnamon ice cream. Cool Whip is good, too.

I think I will make this, and add some walnuts.
It's good and easy ... my favorite combination!
even if it is just after midnight!
