Writers' Conferences

I intend to attend a writers conference in March at Christoper Newport University. Is anyone else planning to attend that conference? Are you going to any conferences this year? Where are they? Which are the ones we should attend if we have the time and money? I'd like to know and probably most of our gather group would be interested.

That's nice. No I haven't planned on any conferences. I graduated in Business. I'm thinking of a writing career though.

We'll have the 2nd annual Japan Writers Conference at Nanzan University, in Nagoya, Japan this November 29th-30th. I'm a member of the organizing committee. Admission and participation are free -- all you have to do is get yourself to Japan.

Sounds fun. I always wanted to attend bouchercon (mystery convention) but it's costly (I have no cash, lol... a true sign of a writer LOL) and my friend said it's usually for people that are a bit closer to publishing than I am.

Although a couple years ago it was close enough that I could have attended but it was both sold out and tickets were over $200 each!!!

Heh. My friend went there though and gave me a stack of books she got from there and we hung out for the day playing tourist. :)

Jim, That sounds fascinating. The furtherist I've traveled to a conference is the James River Writer's last fall. That was pretty nice and we had some top notch, published authors/ speakers and everything else that goes along with a conference. I imagine yours, will be probably spectacular. I hope you have a great time and learn a lot this year.

Jennifer, Where is that conference held? I've almost completed a mystery and thought about attending some of the mystery writer's seminars in the state of VA. Yes, you're correct most of us will never make any real money off of writing, but I truly love it. I hope you can attend some before too long.

I'll be attending the Appalachian Writer's Conference where I will be a co-presenter. Before that I will attend the first year of the 2008 Writers' Collective Workshop where I'll also be a presenter.

There are real advantages of being a presenter at a conference.

Trish, you sound very busy. Ididn't realize they had as many things going on. Have you been able to use your conferences for tax purposes? Which of the two places have you learned the most? And what are the advantages of being a co-presenter?

Anya I always feel if we come away with one thing it was worth it. I am mainly interested in what a couple of the speakers have to say. One of the classe I intend to take is on Queries. I really hope it's good. As we all know that's one of the most important things we need to master.
