I wanted to thank everyone who replied to my email about my computer being messed up. I got some really helpful advice from my Gather friends too!!
Unfortunaly the problem got worse! I had started it in safe mode and ran a virus scan. It detected 4 things, and it said one of them was high risk, and could not be reversed. I am assuming that's what did it. Anyhow, the first day it kept popping up with all sorts of security warnings, and other pop ups. It wouldn't let me do anything, it would take forever, and then freeze up. Then I ran a scan all night long, and also compressed some files so I could try to do a system restore the following day. It wouldn't allow me to do a system restore even in safe mode, so I turned it back on the regular way, and the picture that was on my screen disappeared, and it all turned a deep red, with this devil looking thing in the middle! What the hell?
Needless to say, everyone I talked to said I had gotten a virus. So, I had to go get a new computer. Which wasn't really in my budget, but thank goodness income tax time is here, because that drained me. I packed up the old computer, and am sending it up North. One of my mom's friends is really good with computers, so we will see if maybe it's fixable? Probably not, but I want to be sure before I throw it out. These things cost so much damn money!
Anyway, I'm back. In the three days that I was without a computer, I really got behind. It sucks! I am also upset because I have about 9,000 photos in that old computer, and only backed about half of them up. They said they could transfer them into my new computer, but there is the possibility that if I ever downloaded anything of the internet into my photo files, the virus would be transferred. Boo hoo!
