Yesterday, we had some running around to do. We were so frustrated by the taxes, and Nick keeps hearing about people getting audited already, so we went and got our taxes done professionally. Ugh, right? Well, at least we'll know they are right.
Then, we had bills to pay, and groceries to get. While we were at the grocery store, I noticed the area where the tendon leads from my neck to my shoulder was sore- like I had twisted my head wrong, or slept on it funny, but since it was 5 in the afternoon, I don't think it was from sleeping on it funny.
When I got home, it didn't hurt, so I forgot about it. By the time we went to bed, I had completly forgotten it, and sat on the bed. Maybe because my position was different, or something, it shot pain up through my neck and shoulder again, but not unbearable pain. I could move fine, so I took a flexeril (I have them for when my back starts hurting bad), and went to sleep with it still kind of sore.
I woke up about 30 minutes ago, and couldn't move my head without extreme pain shooting down my neck, and shoulder. It took me a while to be able to get out of bed, and a lot of tries. Nick tried tugging me up by my hand, and it just burned so bad I couldn't do it.
I've taken 3 motrin, and about 1/3rd of a flexeril pill, and I have a heating pad around my neck. But my head is tilted to the opposite side- like my ear is almost touching my opposite shoulder. I can't hold my head up straight, or turn it at all wthout it hurting.
This sucks. It's some sort of a strain or pull- going to a doctor won't tell me anything different, and I already have the types of meds that might be perscribed-
Flexeril for muscle relaxation
Skelaxin for skeletal relaxation
Vicodin for pain (blah, avoiding that one)
So, I have all 3 levels of what they'd give me, so I'm just going to save myself the $25 co-pay that I pay at places like Urgent Care.

It sucks. I feel for you.
Im taking 4 (200mg) IB pro. every 4-6 hours just to be able to move!
Good luck, i feel your pain
No side effects, no more pain. And I live a fully functional life, which the surgeon told me was unlikely.
GENTLE stretching is the key.
Stand straight and extend both arms straight down at your side.
Tilt your head slightly forward, and imagine that someone is pulling you downward by exerting pressure on both hands - if you can't 'imagine' this and make it work, hold some dumbells in each hand, or have a partner sit in front of you on the floor and gently pull on each hand.
Relax
Repeat 5-10 times.
Stand straight.
Hold both arms straight out to your sides (at a 90 degree angle to your body)
Take the arm OPPOSITE the painful side of your neck and bend it towards you at the elbow, then grasp the shoulder of the painful side with your the hand of your bent arm and turn your head to look over the bend elbow.
Hold 5-10 seconds
Relax.
Repeat 2-3 times
Geez, these are hard to describe! Wish I had pictures!
An important thing to keep in mind is that no matter WHAT you do, do it SLOWLY. These muscles are much like rubber bands and will snap back with considerable force (and pain!) if you don't stretch and release slowly.
Good luck.
I went to the doctor last week not being able to move my head in any direction with a pain runnning into my back and shoulder.
My diagnosis was that i'd damaged my trapezius muscle? it was inflammed and disturbing nerve activity to my arm (causing tingling and numbness in fingers)
Basically your right. thye tell you to rest (lying completely flat cause otherwise your still using your neck)
Id already been taking inruprofen when it had started to ache a little the day before (as you know its an anti inflammatory) and he said that should help and put me on a different med naproxen to do the same thing. i also was given diazepam and tramadol for the pain.
anyway hope ure necks better now. =D
