Your easiest bet is to dice everything you have and cook together in chicken broth. Or, you can start with a base for another broth.
Do you have bacon? Dice several slices and cook in the soup pot until you have enough fat to coat the bottom of the pan. Then stir in chopped onion, garlic, carrots and celery and cook, stirring, until browning and fragrant (but take great care not to let the garlic burn or eve get too brown--this turns it bitter!). Add water and stir in the vegs; cook 30 minutes or until all the vegs are tender.
Make early in the day or the previous day for best flavor.
