An interesting website

One of my co-workers sent me this link yesterday, thinking it was something that my fiance and I would like to look at. I'm sharing it with all of my Gather friends now, because it's a neat website: http://www.opacity.us/

The site subtitle is "urban ruins," and that's mostly what's on the site--pictures of old abandoned buildings, many of which are former asylums and hospitals. Some of these buildings are no longer standing (like Danvers, which was demolished in 2006), but they're all very neat to look at, and some of the photography is absolutely breathtaking.

So whether you're into architecture, creepy stuff, or just good photography, you might enjoy this site. I know I've still got a lot of exploring of the site to do!

I -love- looking at old abondonded buildings. They just look so cool. It's also interesting to compare old pictures with newer ones, to see what something used to look like.

I'm a nut for abandonded amusement park photos, too. There's two good ones in Ohio.

Marilyn: What's also interesting to me is that so many of these abandoned buildings are places that were formerly sites of healing of one sort or another. Now part of that is due to the focus of this specific site, but it does seem that so many abandoned places are hospitals and factories. Other vacant buildings tend to get torn down and replaced. These remain standing.
