Scream contest does not sound like fun to me ;)
Sports night -- Is there a ballgame or other sporting event you could go to (how about the local girls high school basketball team or something)? Any colleges nearby -- girls sports are very inexpensive to attend at colleges.
Horse Party -- I don't know what is in your area, but if she likes horses maybe you could do a horse party -- my sister lives in Lexington, KY and a neighborhood teenager put together a "horse camp" this summer and taught the neighborhood kids all about horses -- everything from craft projects to how to care for and ride horses. My six-year old niece had her party at a local farm. Otherwise, a good horse movie would do in a pinch!
A good old-fashioned sleepover with dancing and hanging out is always fun at that age!
Ashley thats a good idea..
Tracey your magazine thing got me to thinking they could make a collage with magazine pics of things they like.. that would be fun!
With both you could rent that silly disney scene it and have teems to play this.
with just girls a slumber party or a late in the evening pj party (but they go home)
It will be just girls.. she does have a few friends that are boys but im ot sure I wanna do taht this year. they get a bit hyper..
I collected all the information for it.
I got more ideas but I'll tell you about them later.
They can all make Valentine's Day cards for their families, or masks, etc.
I took my 4 year old to a great "outer space" themed party last week. The birthday boy was 6. The parents turned off the lights in the living room, had all the kids (and the occasional parent) lie down on the floor and then played a star show. They used some gizmo that looked like a fancy flashlight that displayed all the major constellations. This was all done while the theme music to Star Wars was playing. The kids loved it. Obviously I don't know what your 8 year old likes, but for what it's worth this was definitely a hit with the kids at the party.
Good luck!

I hope she has a great birthday.
Tell her I said Happy Early Birthday! =]
We had a cake walk - it was the BIGGEST HIT! I had a table with different "Little Debbie" snack cakes, etc. that they got to choose from when their number was drawn.
We played hopscotch and had a pinata too!
There are SO many games you could play:
- Pin the tail on the Donkey
- Tossing things into different sized containers
- Name that tune
Have fun and let us know what you decide!
