First let me say that this does NOT relate to gather.com at all. I am honored to have their link on my personal website.
The simple question is:
If a forum allows you to put your personal website link in your profile, do you feel obligated to advertise their forum on your personal website?

I am not sure Gather would want to be on everyone's site, as there are some that do not follow their guidelines, and people could get the wrong idea about what Gather approves or stands behind of in a nature of a websites, products, blogs, opinions, etc.
I guess that's why they don't expect, nor ask people to do it, besides, if they asked they would have to compensate somehow.
Gather is on my business website, www.robinfalls.com. I contacted them and asked for permission and they replied that they would appreciate the link. In fact, they suggested that I become part of their program that compensates for new members reached through my website. Gather.com really goes the extra mile to help. They are at the top of my list.
I was told that statement for the first time the year I worked on a software project for the F.B.I. But that was under another name and seems like another life time.
But, no I still would not put another website in my website. I think it makes it cluttered, and takes away from the look of pages when there is too much advertising.
